SRM Sivaji Ganesan Film Institute

I am very happy to announce to all the passed out students of B.Sc. Film Technology (2009 to 2015 ) that, we are launching the SRM Sivaji Ganesan Students Short film awards for the first time this year and every year thereafter. Films made by the students while studying in the third year for their feature film projects will only be considered for the awards. Prominent jury members from the film industry will scrutinize the films made by the students and select the best one in the following categories.
1. Best Film 2. Best Director
3. Best Cinematographer 4. Best Editor
5. Best VFX Supervisor 6. Best Sound Engineer
7. Best Actor
The students are there by instructed to submit the short films on or before 5th June 2015. Entries must be in DVD format. All entries must contain English subtitles and credits. Incomplete projects will be rejected out rightly. We hereby enclose the entry form for you to download it, fill it and submit it with your DVD on or before the last date. The entries can be submitted in person or can be sent through the courier service to the address mentioned below.

I am happy to share with you all that we had our dance practical’s shoot for our acting students on 6th and 7th March 2015, within our college premises. Thiru Babu, Dance master who is taking dance classes for our acting students has choreographed the song. “Dangamaari” was the song taken from the film “Anegan”. Thiru Premanand trivedi, staff from the cinematography department has done the cinematography. Students from Direction and cinematography departments were used as assistants respectively for the song shoot and it was a learning experience for all of them. Dividing the punches of the lyrics from the song, and lighting for it, are the areas concentrated while shooting for the song. For acting students it was a practice to catch the rhythm sense, memorizing the dance movements and performing in front of the camera. Here are some of the working stills from the shoot.

Veteran film Editor and Director Thiru.B.Lenin conducted three days of seminar cm workshop for our students on 27th Feb, 2nd and 3rd March 2015, at our institute. He dealt with the basics of editing and how editing an important role plays in the overall narrative structure of the film. He also insisted how important is the knowledge of rhythmic sense to the students while editing the films. He quoted various examples from films to enhance is view points. Overall it was an enriching experience for all our students.

I am really happy to share with you all that our second year Direction department student, Mr.Jagadeesh and Mr.Balamurugan of first year B.Sc Film technology student have won the first and second prizes in the inter-collegiate cultural and short film competition, 'CHIMERA-2015', conducted by Patrician College of Arts and Science, Adyar. The title of Jagadeesh's short film is 'Aasai' and title of Balamurugan's short film is 'Bioscope'. On behalf of our SRM Sivaji Ganesan Film Institute i wish them many more success in all their future endeavors.
