On Saturday, September 21st, the world celebrated international Peace day! two weeks ago our children embarked in a quest for peace. Our preschoolers painted doves, learned how to sign peace and learned that peace begins with a smile.
Our kindergartners learned how to solve problems peacefully, how to accept each other and celebrate their differences!
One of the highlights of our “Celebrating Peace” week was definitely our “Kids International Peacemaking Project”. Our kindergarteners connected with our partner school Spring and Zoom in Chennai, India to exchange ideas about peace and cultural diversities. The exchange was amazing with the children’s curious questions like “Do you have snow in India?” “If our favorite food in India is rice, what’s yours?” Giving meaningful opportunities to children to meet other children on the other side of the world is learning through non-traditional style (Joy Filipovic, school coordinator).
It was breathtaking to see more than 60 children coming together to talk about peace! This 40 minute peace project bridged our cultural differences, race, religion and language. And there was only one language spoken- the language of love and peace.
“If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children”.
