“Wishing all the amazing parents and families of Kalpavriksh Montessori a joyous holiday season! 🎄✨ May this festive time bring warmth, laughter, and cherished moments with loved ones. Thank you for being part of our school community! 🙏

Gond Art is the traditional art form of the Gond _Adivasis_, ancient people that have lived in the forest rich landscape of Central India. Like the other Adivasis in India, the Gond people have a distinct culture, language (the Gondi language), religious practices and a way of life that is closely interconnected with their natural landscape. Gondwana, the ancient supercontinent, derives its name from an ancient Gond kingdom of a similar name. This ancient community, along with other Adivasi communities in Central India today face the risk of displacement and a complete loss of their identity due to indiscriminate mining and exploitation of natural resources that lie under their traditional lands.

Sleep has become a challenge and a wish for us adults. In a world driven by forces beyond, simple things are becoming difficult. In keeping pace with life, our days are long, and into this we have drawn children too.
But children are at a phase when they should be as close as possible to a natural way of life. If we could, we should join them rather than them living the way we are. Sleep therapy is a very recent phenomenon. It is with the intent of helping children and their families that the session with Dr. Kavitha was arranged by one of our parent.

“I can, I am capable, I am worthy of something, my collaboration is needed by the people with whom I live, my work is important to others and I can transform the world around me with my work” — Silvana Quattrocchi Montanaro, ‘Understanding the Human Being: The Importance of the First Three Years of Life’

*“I can, I am capable”* — Developed as children gain independence through practicing real-world practical tasks like care of environment and care of self.

*“I am worthy of something”* — Arises when children actively participate in everyday life and contribute to the community.

*“My work is important to others”* — Realized when children engage in collaborative tasks and contribute to the environment.

*“I can transform the world around me with my work”* — This basic experience of being able to change and transform their surroundings gives children an enduring sense of self-esteem. .

“Therefore work on the land is an introduction both to nature and to civilisation and gives a limitless field for scientific and historic studies. If the produce can be used commercially this brings in the fundamental mechanism of society, that of production and exchange, on which economic life is based. This means that there is an opportunity to learn both academically and through actual experience what are the elements of social life. We have called these children the “Erdkinder” because they are learning about civilisation through its origin in agriculture. They are the “land-children.” — Maria Montessori, ‘From Childhood to Adolescence’

“Creativity bloomed at Kalpavirksh Montessori Community School!

Our elementary children had an amazing time at the Palmyra Workshop, where they got to explore their artistic side and develop essential hands-on skills!

The young minds were busy crafting beautiful thooranas (torans), adorable keychains, some toys and stunning crown wreaths. The air was filled with excitement as they learned the art of weaving and decorating these traditional pieces.

This fun-filled workshop not only helped develop their fine motor skills but also gave them a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of India. Kudos to our young artisans!

We are fortunate to have our school campus amongst such greenery. Our children get to see seasonal fruit bearing trees, delights like the touch-me-not plants, flowering shrubs like pavala malli, creepers like nithya malli, sangu poo… it’s a privilege for us to see the children experience nature around them in awe.

Rituals and traditions build connections between generations and help instill a sense of belonging and security. They are also a means of instilling family values, a means of building a meaningful bond with the community. Young children, at this absorbent age of 2.6 — 3 years of age, have the need to develop the self-efficacy required to contribute meaningfully to their family and their larger community. It is through the practice of traditions and rituals that children see this need met in a concrete way.
