IIT Madras BS Student Aditya Raj Secures Rank 310 Among 46,000+ Participants in Google Hackathon, Reaches Finals and Builds for the Cybersecurity Community!

From participating in major hackathons to building tools for the cybersecurity community, Aditya Raj, a student of the IIT Madras BS in Data Science and Applications programme, has been exploring and creating across different fields.

Recently, Aditya participated in hackathons conducted by OpenAI and Google for Developers, reaching the final round in both. In the Google hackathon, conducted by Hack2Skill in collaboration with Google for Developers, he secured Rank 310 among 46,000+ participants.

He has also developed a Python package for strict PDF encryption, which has been reviewed and used by security professionals and received appreciation from members of the technology community.

And his creativity doesn't stop at technology! His poems have also been published in various literary anthologies.

JEE Didn’t Go as Planned, But Mohit Mahur Didn’t Stop! How the IIT Madras BS Degree helped him Strengthen his Foundations, Build an AI Project, & Earn a Software Engineering Internship at the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre (SGBC), IIT Madras!!

When Mohit Mahur came across the IIT Madras BS Degree Program during the COVID period, he wasn't sure where his future was headed.

After not getting the JEE Main score he hoped for, he chose a different path, one that eventually helped him build confidence in mathematics, statistics, programming, problem-solving and, most importantly, himself.

“Initially, I thought that since it was an online degree, it might not hold much value. However, as I progressed through the program, I realised that it was one of the best decisions I had ever made.”

His journey went beyond academics. Driven by his growing interest in AI, Mohit worked on a personal project to build an AI powered UPSC preparation application, with the vision of eventually turning it into a startup.

But before building a startup, he wanted industry exposure.

After persistent efforts and multiple attempts to find the right opportunity, he secured an internship as a Software Engineer Intern at the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre, IIT Madras.

For Mohit, the IIT Madras BS program became a space to learn by doing:

🔹 MAD 1 & MAD 2 strengthened his full-stack development skills
🔹 BDM projects taught him to turn raw data into meaningful insights
🔹 SPG helped him understand teamwork and collaboration
🔹 Project vivas and discussions improved his communication, presentation and interview skills

“The assignments, projects, and live sessions are extremely valuable and help students develop both technical and practical skills.”

His biggest takeaway is simple: “Keep moving forward, stay consistent, and never stop trying. Progress may take time, but continuous effort eventually brings results.”

IIT Madras BS Learner Renee Noronha Completes IRONMAN Canada, Covering 226 km in a Day & Reaching Her 4th Continent in Her Journey Towards a Six Continent World Record!

On 2 August 2026, Renee successfully completed IRONMAN Canada in Ottawa, making it her fourth continent after Oceania, Europe and Asia.

A full distance IRONMAN means:
- 3.8 km swim
- 180 km bike
- 42.2 km run

All completed in a single day.
And this one was far from easy.

“IRONMAN Canada was a particularly challenging race, with rain throughout the day across the swim, bike and run, so I’m really happy to have completed it successfully and moved one step closer to the world record.” But Renee isn't stopping here.

Her next challenge is the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, Hawai‘i, on 10 October 2026.

She earned her place at the World Championship after winning her age group at IRONMAN Philippines earlier this year.

Kona will be another special milestone for Renee as she becomes the youngest Indian and among the first few Indian women to compete at the IRONMAN World Championship

“I’ll be the youngest Indian and among the first few Indian women to compete at the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, which makes this a very special milestone for me.”

MoU Signed in the Presence of Hon’ble CM Thiru. Nara Chandrababu Naidu: IIT Madras For All to Create New Pathways for Tribal Students in Andhra Pradesh to Access IIT Madras BS Degree Programmes Without JEE!

On World Tribal Day, the Government of Andhra Pradesh and IIT Madras signed an MoU under the IIT Madras For All initiative to expand access to the IIT Madras BS Degree Programmes for tribal students in Andhra Pradesh, without JEE!

The initiative will support students through identification, preliminary screening, qualifier preparation, fee support, mentoring and academic access, creating a pathway for talented students to pursue an IIT Madras education.

The MoU was signed and exchanged in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Thiru. Chandrababu Naidu, along with:

- Thiru. M. M. Naik , Secretary to Government, Tribal Welfare & Social Welfare Department

- Smt. M. Gowthami, IAS, Secretary, APTWREIS (Gurukulam)

- Prof. Vignesh Muthuvijayan, Associate Chair, IIT Madras CODE

- Thiru. Hari Krishnan N, Head – Social Initiatives & Outreach, IIT Madras CODE

This partnership marks another step towards making quality education more accessible and creating new opportunities for talented students from tribal communities.
