IIT Madras BS in Electronic Systems

We are glad to share that a student from the IIT Madras BS Degree program recently won the Mark Rober Jugaad Contest, an online competition organized by CrunchLabs. The contest encouraged participants to build creative, functional inventions using everyday or locally available materials.

For the submission, the student built a fully working 3D printer from scratch using plywood, strings, basic hardware, and commonly available components.

From Class 6, he dreamed of flying. Today, he’s designing the circuits that make it possible!!

Meet Krish Sadana from Andhra Pradesh – a student whose passion for aerospace engineering led him to take an unconventional path.

While pursuing a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, he also joined the BS in Electronic Systems at IIT Madras.

With hands-on lab kits at home, on-campus mentorship, and industry-focused courses, Krish gained a unique perspective that blends mechanics and electronics seamlessly.

“Modern avionics is nothing but Electronic Systems in motion,” he says, as he sets his sights on a Master’s in Aerospace Engineering. For Krish, the sky isn’t the limit – it’s the destination.

Ameen, a student of the IIT Madras BS program, recently completed his internship at NIT Trichy, where he applied his classroom learnings to practical, real-world challenges. He credits the program’s flexibility, strong theoretical foundation, and hands-on approach for preparing him to take on such opportunities with confidence.

Reflecting on his journey, Ameen shares: “The curriculum’s industry relevance, combined with excellent faculty guidance, helped me sharpen problem-solving skills and prepared me for real-world challenges. This program has not only boosted my technical competence but also opened doors to exciting internship and career opportunities.”

“I scored 99 percentile in JEE… and still didn’t get into an IIT.”

Venkata Subhash Munnaluru, a 99-percentile scorer in JEE from Nellore, faced an unexpected twist, an error during counselling cost him a seat in a core IIT program. But that setback led him to something better: clarity, growth, and purpose through the BS in Electronic Systems at IIT Madras.

“I never thought I’d enjoy learning in an online setup,” Venkata shares. “But this program helped me go deeper into the concepts. The way professors simplify tough topics is truly impactful.”

Now in the BS level of the program, Venkata is not only thriving academically, but also exploring research and applying his knowledge through real world projects most recently, an internship at Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad where he worked on Compressive Sensing.

We are proud to announce that a team of students from our Electronics and Systems (ES) program has excelled in the E-Yantra Robotics Competition by IIT Bombay. Their impressive performance placed them in the top 25 internationally and among the top 10 teams nationwide!

The team—Namai Chandra, Madhur Tharaja, Aditya Prakash, and Vivek Dhariwal—also earned the prestigious opportunity to collaborate with the Chip Design Studio at IIIT Bangalore.

In an exciting moment, they were honored to meet with Director and VP, further recognizing their achievement.

We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and look forward to seeing more from them in the future!

The BS ES students recently had the incredible opportunity to visit the IIT Madras campus for hands on lab sessions!

During this engaging experience, students were able to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios, working with advanced tools and technologies in electronics and embedded systems.
