Biomimetics and Dynamics Laboratory, IIT Madras

As a part of the series, IIT Madras recognises the achievements and contributions of Prof. Sunetra Sarkar, Dept of Aerospace Engineering, IITM. Her research focuses on aerodynamics of flapping wing flights, deterministic & stochastic treatment of nonlinear flow and fluid-structure-interaction problems. She was recently highlighted by Aerodynamic Women . Her research has also been covered by the Technical University of Delft’s Technical magazine ‘Delta’.
She has been involved in several research projects with DRDO labs in India and Air Force Office of Scientific Research, USA. She has also worked on industrial projects from India and abroad. She has over 150 journal and conference publications and several book chapters. She is part of the Complex Systems and Dynamics group, an interdisciplinary research initiative and its interdisciplinary dual degree (IDDD) programme at . Dr. Sarkar heads the Bio-mimetics and Dynamics Laboratory at . She is the faculty advisor for Saathi at IITM, an integral part of the wellness family. She is also on the editorial advisory board of International Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics, Elsevier.

The post-convocation (and in keeping with the times, online) get-together, with our jointly guided, recently graduated doctoral students - Chandan Bose and S Krishna Kumar. Chandan is now a post-doc in the FSI Lab, University of Liege, Belgium and Krishna is a post-doc at The Center for Atmospheric Sciences, IISc Bangalore.
We will miss them in The Uncertainty Lab and in The Biomimetics Lab.

Prof. Sunetra Sarkar has been featured for her research in the broad area of aerodynamics and allied fields, such as fluid-structure interactions focussing on bio-mimicry of flapping flyers which can help in the efficient design of micro aerial vehicles.
