I would like to start this FB Page with perhaps the most loveliest (a la the Bard of Avon) quote that I've come across.
“I said to the almond tree, 'Sister, speak to me of God.' And the almond tree blossomed.”
― Nikos Kazantzakis, in his biographic novel, Report to Greco..

As the veteran American journalist Doug Larson put it, "if the English language made any sense, 'lackadaisical' would have to do with a shortage of flowers"
Yes, English is indeed a funny language because words don't always mean what you think they do. And quite often this creates chaos..
Starting a page on FB, titled English Masala - Food for thought, to handle various aspects of this funny yet beautiful language. The page will be active from tonight.
On this page, in an attempt to make this language a little less confounding, we will discuss idioms & phrases, grammar, meanings and usage, spellings, pronunciation, phonetics, etymology and of course literature . And not to mention those funny goof-ups that we all make..This is exactly a place where you can get your daily quota of masalas - anything and everything of the English Language !
The name that I had in mind for this page was English Cafe but a casual search on Google established that there was another centre in Manila by the same name and established for the same purpose.
This name 'English Masala' was suggested exactly 20 months ago, by Sherin Sherif. A Big Thanks to her !
Another name that gave a tight contest to 'English Masala' was 'tween the linez' , suggested by Civic John. A big thanks to him too..
Some other friends - Aarsha and Suman - had chipped in with a few other names too but at the end, it was 'English Masala' that took the victory stand - and it wasn't a cake walk at all, mind you !!
Disclaimer : This page is not a means to impart formal training in the language nor are we going to discuss topics in an orderly, scheduled manner. This is being handled by a few individuals, out of their love and passion for English. None of us is a qualified teacher in this language.
