📘 Rule 1: C or K Rule

One of the most common spelling confusions is choosing between C and K.

👉 Use C before a, o, u
Examples: cat, cot, cup

👉 Use K before e, i
Examples: key, kite

🔍 Why?
The letter C can sound like /k/ or /s/. To keep the /k/ sound strong and clear before e and i, we use K instead.

📘 Rule 2: QU Rule

👉 The letter Q is almost always followed by U in English.

Examples:
queen, quick, quiet, quiz, queue

🔍 Why?
In English, Q alone doesn’t make a complete sound. It teams up with U to make the /kw/ sound.

💡 Tip: Teach kids “Q and U are best friends!”

📘 Rule 3: FLOSS Rule

👉 Double f, l, s, z after a short vowel in one-syllable words.

Examples:
bell, miss, buzz, off

🔍 When to use:

Word has 1 syllable

Has a short vowel sound

Ends in f, l, s, or z

❌ Not used in words like: bus  (exceptions exist)
