இந்தியா வெறும் 7 ரன்கள் வித்தியாசத்தில் வெற்றி பெற்றது. ஸ்கோர்போர்டில் இந்தியா வென்றது என்று எழுதப்பட்டாலும், அந்த மைதானத்தில் இருந்த அனைவரின் மனதையும் கவர்ந்த வீரன் பெத்தெல் தான். அவர் அவுட் ஆன தருணத்தில் இந்திய வீரர்கள் கொண்டாடிய அந்த ஆர்ப்பரிப்பு கூட அவருக்கான மரியாதைதான்.

இந்த போட்டியில் ஆட்டநாயகன் விருதை பெற்றவர் சஞ்சு சாம்சன். 42 பந்துகளில் 89 ரன்கள் குவித்து இந்தியாவை வலுவான நிலைக்கு கொண்டு சென்றதற்காக அந்த விருது அவருக்கே உரியது. இந்த உலகக்கோப்பையில் தொடர்ந்து இரண்டாவது முறையாக அவர் அந்த விருதை வென்றுள்ளார்.

இன்று ஒரு உண்மை மட்டும் தெளிவாக தெரிய வந்தது… பெரிய மேடைகளில் தான் சாம்சன், பெத்தல் போன்ற உண்மையான வீரர்கள் பிறக்கிறார்கள்.

இந்தியா இறுதிப்போட்டிக்கு தகுதி பெற்றுவிட்டது. ஆனால் இந்த அரையிறுதி போட்டியின் நினைவில் இரண்டு பெயர்கள் எப்போதும் இருக்கும் சஞ்சு சாம்சன்… மற்றும் ஜேக்கப் பெத்தெல்.

ஜெயிச்சது இந்தியா… ஆனா போராட்டத்தால் மனசை ஜெயிச்சது பெத்தல்! அரையிறுதி… அழுத்தம்… உலகக்கோப்பை கனவு… இந்த மூன்றும் சேரும் போது தான் ஒரு வீரனின் உண்மையான மதிப்பு தெரிய வரும். இன்று நடந்த இந்தியா vs இங்கிலாந்து அரையிறுதி போட்டி அதற்கு ஒரு சிறந்த உதாரணம்.

முதலில் பேட்டிங் செய்த இந்திய அணிக்கு ஒரு வலுவான அடித்தளத்தை அமைத்தது சஞ்சு சாம்சன் தான். Knockout போட்டி என்ற அழுத்தத்திலும் அவர் ஒரு நிமிஷமும் பதட்டப்படாமல் விளையாடினார். 42 பந்துகளில் 89 ரன்கள்… 8 பவுண்டரி, 7 சிக்சர்கள்… இது ஒரு இன்னிங்ஸ் மட்டும் இல்ல, ஒரு Statement. Powerplayலேயே ரன் வேகத்தை உயர்த்தி இந்தியாவை சரியான பாதைக்கு அழைத்துச் சென்றார். ஏற்கனவே வாழ்வா சாவா போட்டியில் வெஸ்ட் இண்டீஸ் எதிராக இந்தியாவை காப்பாற்றியவர்… இன்று மீண்டும் அதே மாதிரி பெரிய மேடையில் இந்தியாவுக்கு backbone ஆக நின்று இருக்கிறார்.

இந்தியா இறுதியில் 253 ரன்கள் குவித்தது. அந்த ஸ்கோர் பெரியதாக இருந்தாலும், அரையிறுதிப் போட்டி என்பதால் எந்த நேரத்திலும் மேட்ச் திரும்பலாம் என்ற பதட்டம் இருந்தது. அதற்கான காரணம் இங்கிலாந்து அணியின் இளம் வீரர் ஜேக்கப் பெத்தெல் . எதிரணியாக இருந்தாலும் அவருடைய இன்னிங்ஸ்க்கு நாம தலை வணங்கியே ஆகணும்.

அவர் ஆடிய அந்த போராட்டம்… அது வெறும் ரன் எடுப்பதல்ல. கடைசி மூச்சு வரை போராடும் ஒரு வீரனின் மனநிலையை காட்டியது. எந்த பவுலர் வந்தாலும் முதல் மூன்று பந்துகளில் ஒரு பவுண்டரி அல்லது சிக்சர் அடித்து அழுத்தத்தை மீண்டும் இந்தியாவிற்கு திருப்பினார். ரன் ரேட்டை கட்டுக்குள் வைத்துக் கொண்டு 18வது ஓவர் வரை இங்கிலாந்தை போட்டிக்குள் வைத்திருந்தது அவர் மட்டும்தான்.

ஒரு தருணத்தில் கூட “இங்கிலாந்து ஜெயிக்கலாம்” என்று ரசிகர்கள் நினைத்தார்கள். ஆனால் கிரிக்கெட்டில் சில சமயம் ஒரே ஒரு வீரன் போட்டியை மாற்றிவிடுவான். இன்று அந்த வீரன் ஜஸ்ப்ரித் பும்ரா.

எல்லா பவுலர்களும் ரன் கொடுத்த நேரத்தில் கூட, பும்ரா மட்டும் ரன்னை கட்டுப்படுத்தினார். 16வது ஓவரில் வெறும் 8 ரன்கள்… 18வது ஓவரில் 6 ரன்கள்… கடைசி இரண்டு ஓவர்களில் மொத்தம் 14 ரன்கள் மட்டும். அந்த இரண்டு ஓவர்கள்தான் இந்த போட்டியின் திருப்புமுனை. அவர் “Boom Boom Bumrah”!

இறுதியில் இங்கிலாந்து 246 ரன்களில் முடிந்தது. இந்தியா வெறும் 7 ரன்கள் வித்தியாசத்தில் வெற்றி பெற்றது.
