As part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Sir Theagaraya College, the History Department is organizing a grand celebration to commemorate 75 years of distinguished educational service. We're also celebrating "Chennai Week Celebrations- 2025" from August 22-29, marking the 386th foundation day of Chennai city.

The exhibition, themed "Memories of the Golden Age of Madras and Timeless Traditions," was inaugurated on August 26, 2025, at 11 am by Mr. Hemanth Kumar Pitti and Dr. K. Thiyagarajan. We're thrilled to see professors and students from other departments visiting the exhibition with great interest!

சர் தியாகராய கல்லூரியின் 75 ஆண்டுகால சிறப்புமிக்க கல்வி சேவையை நினைவுகூரும் வைர விழா கொண்டாட்டங்களின் ஒரு பகுதியாக, வரலாற்றுத் துறை ஒரு பிரமாண்டமான கொண்டாட்டத்தை ஏற்பாடு செய்கிறது. சென்னை நகரத்தின் 386வது நிறுவன தினத்தைக் குறிக்கும் வகையில், ஆகஸ்ட் 22-29 வரை "சென்னை வார கொண்டாட்டங்கள்- 2025" ஐயும் கொண்டாடுகிறோம்.

"சென்னையின் பொற்கால நினைவுகள் மற்றும் காலத்தால் சிதையாத பாரம்பரியங்கள்" என்ற கருப்பொருளில் அமைக்கப்பட்ட கண்காட்சியை ஆகஸ்ட் 26, 2025 அன்று காலை 11 மணியளவில் சர் தியாகராயா கல்லூரியின் நிர்வாக குழு உறுப்பினரும் சர் தியாகராயா கல்லூரி மேல்நிலைப் பள்ளியின் செயலருமான திரு. ஹேமந்த் குமார் பிட்டி மற்றும் கல்லூரியின் முதல்வர் டாக்டர் K. தியாகராஜன் ஆகியோர் தொடங்கி வைத்தனர். கண்காட்சியை மற்ற துறைகளைச் சேர்ந்த பேராசிரியர்களும் மாணவர்களும் மிகுந்த ஆர்வத்துடன் பார்வையிட்டனர்!

Madras Week Celebrations – 2025.

“CHARITHRA–2025”- Inter-Departmental Competitions

As part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of our college, the P.G. and Research Department of Historical Studies proposes to conduct Inter-Departmental Competitions under the departmental banner “CHARITHRA–2025”. The objective is to highlight the achievements and services of Sir Pitty Theagaraya to society and his contributions to the development of the city of Madras, and to commemorate the 386th foundation day of the city of Madras. These events will be organized as part of the Madras Week Celebrations – 2025, scheduled from August 22, 2025 to August 29, 2025.

In this connection, we have planned a series of events and competitions, including a Heritage Walk, Photo Exhibition, Photo Contest, Reels Contest, and Poetry Recitation / Madras Gaana / Solo Song Contest, exclusively for the students of our college.

The History Association Valedictory Function for the academic year 2024-26 was held on 18th March 2025. Our College Principal, Dr. K. Thiyagarajan, presided over the function.

Dr. L. Selvamuthu Kumaraswami, Member, Committee for General Books, Press Information Bureau, Government of India, Thiruvananthapuram. Formerly Principal of Lady Willingdon Institute of Advanced Study in Education, Chennai, was the chief guest. He delivered a special lecture on "History as a Pathway: Navigating Higher Studies, Ethical Leadership, and Public Service."

During the function, Mr. V. Dhana Chakravarthi, II M.A. Historical Studies, was awarded the Best Proficiency in History Award for the PG course, while Mr. G. Sanjay, III B.A. Historical Studies, received the Best Proficiency in History Award for the UG course.

Additionally, two students from each class were encouraged with cash prizes for their holistic performance.
