I wish I had known this beforehand !! Yes, truly all expectant mommies should know “How to safely survive Baby’s Second Night Syndrome?”
Newborns sleep, eat and cry. This we know.
But how much sleep should we expect?
How much crying is normal?
When a baby is eating all the time does that mean they are not getting enough from breastfeeding?
The second night syndrome is the behavior exhibited by most newborns on their second night.
Most babies do it.
It is normal.
It is characterized by frequent breastfeeding. Very, very frequent. Crazy frequent.
When your baby is breastfeeding nonstop you may find yourself thinking any one of these things:
~ How can you possibly be hungry? I just fed you.
~ How can you keep eating? You must have taken everything that is there.
~ If you would just stay awake and eat for long enough you would get full and then you would sleep.
~ You must not be getting anything and that is why you keep wanting to eat.
If you think your baby is the reason for this newborn feeding frenzy is because he is not getting anything you would be wrong most of the time.
"Second Night Syndrome" (as it's sometimes called)
usually only lasts a night or two.
Continuing with responsive feedings, plenty of skin-to-skin and rooming-in will help your newborn to feel safe

Heyy New Mamas or Mom-to-be's !!...Checkout these Umbilical Cord Care Tips..
After birth, your baby's cord is clamped and cut, leaving a lil stump with a plastic clamp in its place!
The plastic clamp can usually be removed after a few days, often before you leave the hospital.
The cord stump will dry out and eventually fall off. It takes about 1-3 weeks for this to happen.
Here's the thing, all you really have to do during this time is keep it dry and be gentle around it!
🌼 Tips for caring for baby's cord stump:
✓ Let it dry out on its own — no alcohol or peroxide needed!
âś“ Keep it nice and dry, if it accidentally gets wet, pat dry the area
✓ Avoid baths until it has fallen off — stick to sponge baths as needed
âś“ Fold baby's diaper down so it doesn't irritate the area
âś“ Loose clothing on the abdomen is preferred (many love the little kimono-style shirts until it falls off)
âś“ Don't pull it off! It can be tempting when it's hanging on by a thread, but resist, mama!
🌼 When to call the Pediatrician:
* Redness or swelling at the cord site
* Bad / foul smell from the stump
* Any kind of puss, oozing, or extensive bleeding
* If it hasn't fallen off by 3 weeks

***SAVE THIS POST***
I share this information as I am planning to initiate my own super slow & gentle, parent-led weaning process.
I suspect that my incredible baby would nurse until she turn 6 if I let her and whilst that works for some families, I am keen to have a little more autonomy soon. I am not rushing the process, but I am initiating it and it already feels bittersweet.
I share the information I have found on this topic to empower and support you, whatever your breastfeeding journey looks like.
Natural term weaning occurs when a child ceases to breastfeed of their own accord. It should not be mistaken for a sudden, temporary nursing strike.
Planned weaning occurs when the parent initiates the cessation of breastfeeding/ chestfeeding.
This post focuses upon the impact of weaning upon the nursing parent's body and mind.
The cessation of breastfeeding triggers a physical and hormonal adjustment sometimes known as weaning blues.
There is little formal research on the topic, but it is hypothesized that the reason for this is that the hormones prolactin and oxytocin play a significant role in feelings of love, contentment and relaxation.
As lactation ends, lowering the levels of these hormones, your mood may follow too..
But from a physical perspective, depending upon how long you take stop breastfeeding, you may experience engorgement and clogged ducts which could lead to mastitis if not cleared..
If you do experience any of these symptoms, alternating between hot and cold therapy with compresses, as well as managing any pain with appropriate analgesics will help.
Cabbage leaves are also proven to ease discomfort associated with engorged breasts
As your nursing journey comes to an end for whatever reason(s), you may find that you feel a mixture of grief and relief.
Whatever your emotions, give yourself permission to feel them n be gentle with yourself as you adjust to this new season of parenthood
Stay tuned for my forthcoming weaning diaries & save this post for a time when you may need it.

MYTH Vs FACT - POST 4
Myth: Breastfeeding a baby after 12 months is of little value because the quality of breast milk begins to decline after six months.
FACT / Truth: Breast milk doesn’t decline in quality over time. It’s true that breast milk composition changes throughout the breastfeeding duration, but this is just another sign of how perfectly breast milk has developed to continue meeting your baby’s developing needs.
It’s important to remember that many of your baby’s systems will develop over years, not simply 6 or 12 months, which is why breast milk helps to continue to meet those developing requirements.
The reason we add complementary foods to breast milk at 6 months isn’t because breast milk is no longer important, it’s simply because your baby’s nutritional/caloric needs are no longer met by breast milk alone.
Your breast milk will continue to provide your baby immune protection, as well as nutrition, the entire time you continue providing your baby with breast milk. This is important because it takes years before a child’s immune system matures fully. Some parts won’t be fully developed until they are over 10 years old!

DID YOU KNOW ?!.....
Newborns on average can lose up to 10% of their birth weight, and usually will regain it by 2 weeks of age.
In subsequent babies, this is often achieved sooner.
And once your baby gets back to birth weight and nursing is well established, you can let them tel you when they're hungry. So if your babe gives you longer stretches of sleep, don't panic and wake them! Utilize that time yourself and rest.
At this point, on demand feeding is all you need. And trust baby will let you know when they are needing to nurse.
Did you know this ?...if not, be sure to save it and share this post to the new momma's who needs to see this !

MYTH Vs FACT - Post 3
Myth: A mother must drink milk to make milk.
Truth / Fact: Sorry milk lovers. This just isn’t true. Milk production is tied to how well the breast is being drained of breast milk. You have to remember this is a supply and demand situation. Your breast will begin increasing or decreasing production to meet the consumption needs of your baby.
While you don’t need cow’s milk to make human milk, you do need water, so remember to make sure you are drinking enough water while you are breastfeeding.

MYTH Vs FACT - POST 2
Myth: It is normal for breastfeeding to hurt.
Fact / Truth: While many women have some initial discomfort related to getting the baby to latch on to the ni**le properly, breastfeeding is not supposed to be painful.
Some mums do comment that the first few times they breastfeed, it feels “different,” but that shouldn’t be a surprise since you’ve likely never experienced a liquid coming through the milk ducts and out your ni***es before.
Challenges are often related to the infant, not the mother. Babies may not be able to latch properly for example, so mothers shouldn’t automatically assume that it is their breast or breast milk production that is the problem.

MYTH Vs FACT: POST 1
MYTH: If you have small breasts, you won’t produce enough milk to feed your baby.
TRUTH / FACT: Size doesn’t matter! The size of your breasts has no impact on your body’s ability to produce milk.
First, let’s look at a few facts about the anatomy of the breast. Breast size is caused by the amount of fatty and fibrous tissue in addition to the amount of milk-producing glandular tissue. Second, breast milk production is hormonally stimulated and increases with the baby’s demand. It’s very clever – the baby is in control of the amount of milk produced, and the breast size makes no difference at all.
Very simply, increasing the frequency and effectiveness of breastfeeding sessions with a baby increases the milk supply. There are many things that can affect the production of milk like stress, tiredness or depression, but the size of your breast size is not a contributing factor.
Milk storage capacity in the breast may differ, so some mums may have a larger or smaller capacity to store milk, which may lead to your baby nursing less or more frequently. But as long as the breasts are being drained effectively, your body will keep producing more breast milk.
