Olympus Mons is the largest volcano in the Solar System, with a height of about 21.9 km (13.6 miles) above the Martian surface.
It is located on Mars, in the Tharsis volcanic province.
Olympus Mons has a base diameter of about 600 km (373 mi), which is nearly three times the size of Mount Everest's base.
The volcano has a caldera that measures approximately 370 km (230 mi) across.
The volcano's total area is about 300,000 square kilometers (120,000 sq mi) which is about the size of Arizona.
The volcano is a shield volcano, which means it has a gently sloping profile and is composed mainly of fluid lava flows.
Olympus Mons is believed to have formed by the processes of volcanic activity and tectonic uplift.
It is thought to be inactive, with no evidence of recent eruptions.
The volcano's summit is covered in a layer of ice and snow, which is thought to have accumulated over time from the Martian atmosphere.
Olympus Mons was discovered by NASA's Mariner 9 spacecraft in 1971, and has since been studied by several other spacecraft and rovers, including the Viking, Mars Global Surveyor, and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.
