Grade 2 students at the Chennai Waldorf School enthusiastically engaged in creating their very own miniature aeroplanes through a joyful hands-on craft activity. Using simple materials like ordinary wooden sticks and clips, careful coordination, and plenty of imagination, the children painted, assembled, glued, and constructed each colourful flying piece with great focus and excitement.
From exploring how different parts come together to proudly watching their colourful creations take shape, the activity encouraged creativity, patience, fine motor skills, and problem-solving in a meaningful and experiential way.
Activities like these nurture confidence, concentration, and a love for learning through doing, allowing children to experience the joy of creating something with their own hands.

As part of their Zoology block, our Grade 4 students are exploring the fascinating world of invertebrates, animals without a backbone, through observation, discussion, drawing, and classification.

Beginning with the broad idea of how living beings are grouped in nature, students were introduced to different invertebrate groups such as arachnids, echinoderms, mollusks, crustaceans, cnidarians, annelids, insects, and porifera. Through illustrations and artistic work, the children engaged deeply with the distinguishing characteristics of each group, noticing patterns in body structure, movement, habitat, and form.

In the Waldorf classroom, learning comes alive through both imagination and experience, encouraging children to move beyond memorisation and develop a living relationship with what they study.

Welcome to our Spring Fair Festival at CWS
Here’s a glimpse into how this beautiful day unfolded ✨

At the end of April, the Chennai Waldorf School came alive with the warmth and colour of our Spring Fair Festival, a day filled with laughter, handmade treasures, meaningful conversations, and the vibrant spirit of togetherness.

From customised tote bags and beautifully painted bottles to colourful artwork, dream catchers, bookmarks, keychains, handcrafted houses, woven baskets, and many more creative pieces, every corner reflected imagination, patience, and the joy of creating with one’s own hands.

The fair was more than just an exhibition — it was a celebration of children’s creativity, craftsmanship, and the beauty of slow, meaningful work. Families, children, teachers, and visitors came together to appreciate the effort, skill, and heart poured into every handmade creation.

Watching children proudly showcase their work, families exploring the stalls with excitement, and the entire community gathering in such a warm and lively atmosphere made the day truly unforgettable.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made the Spring Fair Festival such a memorable and joyful day at the Chennai Waldorf School.

At the Chennai Waldorf School, mathematics is experienced not merely as numbers on a page, but as a living, engaging journey of discovery.
Through our Mathematics Block, students explore concepts through movement, patterns, visual learning, rhythm, observation, and hands-on practice, allowing mathematical thinking to grow naturally and meaningfully.
From multiplication wheels and long division to measurement conversions, children actively work with concepts rather than memorising them mechanically. The classroom becomes a space of exploration where learning is woven through art, discussion, logic, and practical application.
By approaching mathematics experientially, students strengthen not only their numerical understanding, but also concentration, problem-solving skills, confidence, and independent thinking.

Every Friday at the Chennai Waldorf School, the aroma of fresh ingredients and the excitement of little chefs fill the air during our much-loved cooking class.
In this session, our students rolled up their sleeves to prepare palak chapathis, a wholesome snack packed with nutrition and flavour. Children kneaded the dough, rolled it out with rolling pins, and used shape cutters to create delightful designs.
Cooking classes at Waldorf are not just about making food; they nurture life skills, independence, focus, coordination, and teamwork. Through these hands-on experiences, children build a deeper connection with what they eat, learn about nutrition naturally, and discover the joy of creating something from scratch.
This beautiful weekly rhythm encourages confidence, mindful eating, and plenty of fun along the way.

Our students at the Chennai Waldorf School stepped into the world of industry to witness the journey of metal shaping through laser cutting and hydraulic press work. What began as flat sheets transformed into carefully crafted forms, revealing the precision behind modern manufacturing.
They observed the steady force of a hydraulic press shaping curved components, guided by thoughtfully designed dies, and watched laser cutting in action, a focused beam bringing digital designs to life with remarkable accuracy.
More than simply observing, the children engaged with the process: noticing patterns, understanding measurements, and connecting geometry and design to real-world applications.
And of course, the joy of holding the finished pieces: rings, cut-outs, and curved forms, turned learning into play, as curious hands became inventive minds.

In Grade 7 at the Chennai Waldorf School, mathematics comes alive through exploration, movement, and discovery. Here, students are not just learning formulas, they are experiencing the beauty of patterns that shape the world around us.
As they work through the golden ratio, they engage with geometry in a hands-on, visual way, drawing, measuring, and observing how proportion creates harmony. From line segments on the board to the natural balance found in art and nature, each step deepens their understanding of how mathematics is both precise and poetic.
In this space, learning is not rushed. It unfolds thoughtfully, allowing each child to connect inwardly with the concept. The golden ratio becomes more than a number, it becomes an experience of balance, beauty, and relationship.
