Pola festival celebration

Bail Pola is the famous thanksgiving festival celebrated by the farmers in the region of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. The occasion acknowledges the agricultural and domestic significance of bulls and cows. Bail Pola falls on the day of Pithori Amavasya in the Marathi Calendar, i.e. on Friday, 26 August. It is believed that on this day, the demon Polasur was killed by Lord Krishna when he was a child. The regional festival is observed by farmers by washing, massaging and then decorating bulls and oxen with ornaments and then they are walked in procession to the village field accompanied by music and dancing.
