Janata Mahavidyalaya, established in 1958, is one of the oldest colleges in the Vidharba region of Maharashtra and the first college in the combined Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts.Founded by Shri.Shrihari Jiwatode Guruji, B.Sc.( Agri.), an Ex. ation to the ‘Janata’.The college has always been a beacon of hope to students from rural areas, tribal belt and the most disadvantaged sections of the society.Our motto is education for enlightenment and empowerment, and our students who passed out do well in almost all walks of life.They speak for us, and we continue our efforts with full dedication and tenacity of purpose, always updating and
upgrading our programmes, methods and skillsets. The college is governed by Chanda Shikshan Prasarak Mandal, a premier educational society, which also runs a chain of educational institutions which include fourteen schools, one CBSE Public School, several technical institutions, D.Ed Colleges, and one college of education with research facility. Carrying the seeds of education to the remotest parts of districts like Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Yeotmal, and Nagpur was a formidable and arduous task which the society took up as a challenge and mission.The result is there for everyone to see.The saplings of learning have sprouted on those faraway landscapes of neglect and backwardness. Janata Mahavidyalaya is today a post-graduate college offering various under-graduate and post-graduate courses in Arts, Commerce and Science streams to more than 1500 students, permanently affiliated to Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University and accredited by NAAC with grade-’B’. We are constantly striving hard to update and upgrade all our programmes and methods, and to serve the student community and society in the best possible manner. We firmly believe in quality and excellence, and as it is correctly said quality is not an accident, but it is the result of an intelligent effort. A Junior College in the streams of Arts, Science, Commerce and M.C.V.C also functions on the same campus.The outstanding performance of our Junior College students year after year at Board Examination and various entrance tests for professional courses needs a special mention here.
