Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh feels immensely proud to share that our alumna Ms. Nandini Sharma has won the Gold Medal at Asian Games 2026, Japan as a member of the Indian Women's Cricket Team.

Nandini, the Indian pacer was part of the team that defeated Sri Lanka in the final and brought home India's second consecutive Asian Games Gold.

She has brought laurels to the College many times in Inter-College & National tournaments.

NSS Day Celebrated with Mental Health Awareness Session at Guru Gobind Singh College for Women

The NSS Unit of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women celebrated NSS Day on 24th September, 2026 by organizing a Mental Health Awareness Session.
On this occasion, Dr. Savneet, HoD, Department of Psychology, highlighted the importance of mental health, stress management, understanding emotions, and seeking support when required, encouraging students to develop positive habits and communicate openly.
A total of 63 NSS volunteers actively participated in the session, gaining a deeper understanding of mental well-being and adopting positive, healthy practices in daily life.
Officiating Principal, Dr. Jaswinder Kaur appreciated the efforts of the NSS Unit and emphasized the importance of mental well-being, encouraging volunteers to promote a supportive and healthy environment in society.

WORLD AYURVEDA
DAY CELEBRATED AT GURU GOBIND SINGH COLLEGE FOR WOMEN

The NSS Unit of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women in collaboration with the Vasudha Environment Society celebrated World Ayurveda Day on 23rd September, 2026 to promote awareness about the importance of Ayurveda and its role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

On this occasion, Dr. Savneet delivered an informative talk on Ayurveda, highlighting its significance as a traditional system of medicine, the benefits of medicinal plants, and the importance of adopting natural and healthy practices in daily life.

Following the talk, students were taken to the College Herbal Garden, where they explored various medicinal plants and learned about their uses and significance in Ayurveda. The visit provided practical knowledge and encouraged students to appreciate the importance of medicinal plants and environmental conservation.

The Officiating Principal, Dr. Jaswinder Kaur, appreciated the initiative taken by the NSS Unit and Vasudha Committee to promote awareness about Ayurveda and traditional healthcare practices. She encouraged students to adopt healthy lifestyle habits and develop a deeper understanding of the significance of medicinal plants.

GURU GOBIND SINGH COLLEGE FOR WOMEN ORGANIZES NMBA TALK

The NSS Unit of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Victory Against Drug Abuse Club, organized a motivational talk under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan on 21st September, 2026. The programme aimed to spread awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse and encourage students to adopt a healthy, drug-free and responsible lifestyle.

Dr. Nemi Chand, State Liaison Officer, NSS, addressed the gathering and spoke about the objectives and significance of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. He motivated students to contribute towards building a drug-free society through awareness, responsible behaviour and active participation in social initiatives. He also expressed his gratitude to the college for its support of the NSS Saarthi Project. Furthermore, he encouraged students to join the Golden Care initiative, which focuses on extending care, support and companionship to elderly people. Around 100 students participated in the event.

Brahma Kumari Sisters Seema and Amrit delivered inspiring motivational talks on the importance of staying away from substance abuse. They shared real-life experiences and highlighted how addiction affects individuals, families and society. Their valuable messages encouraged students to make positive choices, develop self-discipline and lead a life free from addiction. They also administered a meditation pledge, encouraging students to practise meditation and maintain inner peace, positivity and emotional well-being.

Officiating Principal Dr. Jaswinder Kaur appreciated the initiative taken by the NSS Unit and VADA Club to promote awareness about substance abuse among students. She encouraged students to adopt a healthy lifestyle, practise meditation and contribute actively towards building a drug-free society. She also motivated them to participate in community welfare activities and extend care and support to the elderly.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY 2026-27 HELD AT GURU GOBIND SINGH COLLEGE FOR WOMEN

Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector-26, Chandigarh, organized the Investiture Ceremony for the newly elected Student Council for the academic session 2026-27. The ceremony was held to formally entrust responsibilities to the young leaders. The newly elected Student Council consisting of Aastha Panwar (President), Arti Jaswal (Vice-President), Shavy Sood (Secretary), and Nandini (Joint Secretary) and Class Representatives were adorned with badges by Officiating Principal, Dr. Jaswinder Kaur.
Thereafter, the oath-taking ceremony was held where the newly elected council members pledged to discharge their duties with honesty, integrity and commitment and to uphold the honour and glory of the college.
In her address, Officiating Principal, Dr. Jaswinder Kaur congratulated the council and motivated them to be exemplary role models and to lead by example. She emphasized that true leadership lies in service and responsibility. The ceremony concluded with a high tea with the officiating Principal and the Student Welfare Society providing an opportunity for informal interaction and guidance.

A Condolence Meeting was held at Guru Gobind Singh College for Women to mourn the sad demise of Sardar Gurdev Singh (IAS Retd), Honourable President, Sikh Educational Society and to pay tribute to his remarkable life and invaluable contributions. His dedication to educational institutions, his service to the community and his contributions to public life have left an enduring legacy.
He played a pivotal role in guiding the administration at GGSCW and strengthening its academic foundations to promote the cause of quality education. His farsighted leadership, dedication, and commitment to institutional excellence, contributed significantly to the growth and progress of the College. His passing is a profound loss to the educational fraternity, the Sikh community and all those who valued his guidance and leadership. His memory will continue to inspire generations, and his noble contributions will remain a source of pride and gratitude.
Officiating Principal, Dr Jaswinder Kaur led the meeting and said that even in departure, Sardar Gurdev Singh chose to light the path of knowledge for future doctors and to serve humanity beyond life by donating his body for medical research. This ultimate act of selflessness is true seva and will be remembered with immense respect.
The staff observed a two minute silence in his revered memory and offered heartfelt prayers to the Almighty to bless the departed soul with eternal peace.

Sardar Gurdev Singh, IAS (Retd.)
(1931-2026)

A Distinguished Educationist, Administrator, Sportsman and Philanthropist

Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Chandigarh deeply mourns the passing of Sardar Gurdev Singh, M.A., LL.B., IAS (Retd.), a distinguished administrator, educationist, social worker and a committed servant of society. As President of the Sikh Educational Society, Chandigarh, and Sangat Sahib Bhai Pheru Sikh Educational Society, Faridkot, he made significant contributions to the advancement of education, healthcare, sports and social welfare.
His association with the Sikh Educational Society began after his retirement from the Indian Administrative Service. He served as Vice-President and Acting President before assuming the office of President in 2004, following the demise of Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra. Under his dedicated leadership and farsighted stewardship, the Society achieved remarkable progress. Its institutions today provide quality and affordable education to thousands of students. The educational and healthcare institutions associated with the two Societies serve as a lasting testament to his commitment to public service.
Sardar Gurdev Singh was widely admired for his honesty, fairness, compassion, discipline and inspirational leadership. His dedication extended beyond education to the welfare of weaker sections of society. He served as Patron of the Institute of Sikh Studies, Chandigarh, President of the Trust for the Welfare of Vanjaraas and other Weaker Sections of Society, and Convener of the International Sikh Confederation.
His illustrious career included important responsibilities in public administration, cooperative organisations and the sugar industry. He served as Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar, and held leadership positions in national cooperative institutions. His concern for Punjab and its people was reflected in his writings, including his book ‘Scramble for Punjab Waters’ which addresses the issues surrounding the Punjab river waters dispute.
A brilliant student and recipient of merit scholarships, he was equally accomplished in sports. He played hockey up to the international level, captained school, college and university teams, and served as a Special Grade international hockey umpire. He officiated at World Cup and Olympic Hockey Championships and held important positions in hockey administration.
For his outstanding contributions to education and social service, he was honoured with the Punjab Rattan Award in 2008 and a Roll of Honor by the Chief Khalsa Dewan in 2010.
Sardar Gurdev Singh’s life was marked by integrity, courage, humility and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of society.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.

SHDF–SES SCHOLARSHIP DISTRIBUTION CEREMONY HELD AT GURU GOBIND SINGH COLLEGE FOR WOMEN

A scholarship distribution ceremony, titled "Empowering Dreams," was organised at Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, to felicitate thirteen deserving students pursuing higher education. The initiative reaffirmed the abiding commitment of the Sikh Human Development Foundation and Sikh Educational Society (SHDF–SES) to making quality education more accessible to financially disadvantaged students.
Dr Birendra Kaur, Vice President, Sikh Educational Society (SES), graced the event as the Chief Guest. Col. (Retd.) Jasmer Singh Bala, Secretary, Sikh Educational Society; S. Karandeep Singh Cheema, Joint Secretary, SES were also present on the occasion.
Scholarships worth three lakh rupees were presented to the selected students, commending their academic merit and encouraging them to continue pursuing their educational aspirations with diligence and confidence. The occasion also celebrated the accomplishments of two distinguished alumnae, Ms Neha and Ms Diljot, sports students who have brought laurels to the nation through their notable achievements at the national and international levels. Both were felicitated for their outstanding contributions.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest, Dr Birendra Kaur, commended the sustained efforts of SHDF and SES in supporting meritorious students and enabling them to pursue their higher education free from financial constraints. Col. (Retd.) Jasmer Singh Bala also addressed the students, encouraging them to aim high and emerge as accomplished, contributing members of society.
The scholarships have been instituted by the Sikh Human Development Foundation (SHDF), Washington, D.C., a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing scholarships for higher education to bright yet financially disadvantaged students in Punjab and the neighbouring states. In 2025, SHDF forged a partnership with the Sikh Educational Society (SES), Punjab, to continue and strengthen its scholarship mission in India. Workshop on Development of Soft Skills held at Guru Gobind Singh College for Women

The Department of Commerce of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh organised a Student Knowledge Sharing Programme – Workshop on Development of Soft Skills, in association with ICFAI Business School, on 16th September, 2026.

The workshop was conducted by Dr. Vibha Arora, Associate Dean, MDP and Alumni Coordinator, ICFAI Business School, Gurugram. The session aimed to equip students with essential soft skills required for academic excellence, professional growth, and personal development.

Dr. Arora conducted an engaging and interactive session covering key areas such as prompt engineering, effective speaking and communication, active listening, leadership skills, and interview skills. She emphasised the importance of articulating ideas clearly, listening attentively, leveraging AI tools effectively, and presenting oneself with confidence during interviews and professional interactions. Srudents gained a better understanding of how these competencies can strengthen their employability and workplace readiness through practical examples.

The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students and provided them with valuable exposure to the skills and competencies expected in today’s competitive professional environment. The session concluded with an emphasis on continuous learning, confidence-building, effective communication, and adaptability as essential elements for achieving career success.
