Why are Himalayas so high?
The Himalayas are the result of tectonic plate motions that collided India into Tibet. Because of the great amount of tectonic motion still occurring at the site, the Himalayas have a proportionally high number of earthquakes and tremors. The Himalayas are one of the youngest mountain ranges on the planet

Recently, the Himalayan lakes and glaciers have been in the news for serious environmental crises. It is believed that climate change has adverse impacts on the lakes and glaciers in the Himalayas, as most of these have registered significant retreat in the last few decades. Glacial retreat in the Himalayas, if remained unchecked are likely to create serious ecological as well as the socio-political environment in the Indian sub-continent. Apart from decrease in the amount of surface run-off in the rivers originating from the Himalayan glaciers, there are serious apprehensions about the continuity of perennial flow of water in most of the streams and rivers.
