1826 में, 30 मई को पंडित जुगल किशोर शुक्ल ने कोलकाता के बड़ाबाज़ार क्षेत्र के 37, अमरतल्ला लेन से उदंत मार्त्तंड का प्रकाशन शुरू किया, जो हर सप्ताह मंगलवार को पाठकों तक पहुंचता था। यह अखबार के पहले अंक की 500 प्रतियां प्रकाशित हुई थीं। विभिन्न समस्याओं से दो-चार होता हुआ यह अपनी सिर्फ एक ही वर्षगांठ मना पाया।
अंग्रेज सरकार ने 16 फरवरी, 1826 को पंडित जुगल किशोर शुक्ल और उनके सहयोगी मुन्नू ठाकुर को अखबार छापने का लाइसेंस तो दे दिया लेकिन बार-बार अनुरोध करने के बावजूद डाक दरों में इतनी भी रियायत देने को तैयार नहीं हुई कि इसे थोड़े कम पैसे में सुदूर पाठकों तक पहुंचाया जा सकें। सरकार के किसी विभाग को उसकी एक प्रति खरीदना भी मंजूर नहीं था। फलस्वरूप अखबार चलाने के लिए उसकी एक प्रति आठ आने में बेचनी पड़ती थी, जो उस जमाने में काफी महंगी थी। अखबार की भाषा में खड़ी बोली और ब्रजभाषा का घालमेल था। चार दिसंबर, 1827 को प्रकाशित अंतिम अंक में बंद होने की बड़ी ही मार्मिक घोषणा की गई। उदंत मार्त्तंड को महज 19 महीनों की उम्र नसीब हुई। अखबार ने अपने पत्रकारीय सिद्धांतों व सरोकारों से कभी समझौता नहीं किया। इसके 79 अंक ही प्रकाशित हो पाए।

This World Freedom Day is dedicated to Sustainable development and global environment crisis.

Journalists encounter challenges in seeking and disseminating information on issues, such as supply-chains problems, climate migration, extractive industries, illegal mining, pollution, poaching, animal trafficking, deforestation, or climate change. Ensuring the visibility of these issues is crucial for promoting peace and democratic values worldwide.

Journalists should have the opportunity to report accurately, timely, and comprehensively on environmental issues and their consequences, as well as on possible solutions.

This requires a plan that includes:

1. Preventing and protecting against crimes committed against journalists.
2. Ensuring the rights to freedom of expression, freedom of scientific research, and access to key sources of information, in addition to combating dis-/misinformation through journalism.
3. Promoting the plurality, diversity, and viability of media, especially grassroots and/or community-based media.
4. Ensuring that the governance of digital platforms foster the transparency of technology companies, their accountability, due diligence, user empowerment, and content moderation and curation based on international human rights’ standards, as indicated in UNESCO’s Guidelines for the Governance of Digital Platforms.
5. Promoting Media and Information Literacy programs to empower users with skills to engage and think critically in the digital environment.
