Question
Some people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel or work in a foreign country. Others say that these r not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language. Discuss both views and give your opinion?

Solution:
Certain perceptions are inclined towards the belief that travelling and working are the only two forces driving the urge to learn a new international language. While others propagate the need to understand usage and speak a language for other purposes. I believe the main reason for learning a foreign language is the desire to expand one’s knowledge base and understanding.

The prime objective for acquiring multilingual skills may be to acquire an in-depth know-how of the language. This may further open the doors to the learning and mastering lingual diversity. More so, creating the opportunity to read and comprehend the history of not just the language but also the area or nation where the same is practiced. Moreover, attaining expertise in a foreign language shall allow an individual to carry out research in that language. The passion for learning is engrained deeply in certain people which instigates them to undertake this exercise, even if it is only to fulfill their yearning. Yet many may seek to master a different dialect in order to gain employment in certain sectors in the domestic arena. For instance, the demand for a teacher or tourist guide in the modern world is upsurging.

On the other hand, other people believe the motivation to learn a foreign language is only felt at the time of travel, as one does not need a foreign language in their native place. Adapting a new speaking ability before embarking on a travel or new job may bring ease to an individual. This ability shall enhance the communication with the local people, consequently enjoying every moment of the trip. It shall also result in better understanding of the traditions and customs, where one would not hurt the sentiments of the locals and allow social interactions. The comfort at work shall be evident as negotiations with customers or alternatively interactions with peers and seniors would demand proficiency in order to be productive. This trait may also boost promotion prospects.

The crux of the content is that, language learning is more an inner desire rather than a situational need. However, people have different opinions.
