You can study French for years... and still not understand what French people actually say in real life. Because this is the French you never learn in a textbook.
These are the phrases we use every single day - natural, effortless, real. And once you start using them, your French suddenly sounds... different. More natural. More confident. More French.🇫🇷

Vocabulaire 🐛🏙️
The “Pas” Reflex
When you start learning French, you learn the sandwich: Je ne mange pas.
So at the intermediate level, pas tries to sneak into every negative sentence… even when it shouldn’t.
I hear these all the time:
❌ Je ne fume pas jamais.
✅ Je ne fume jamais. (Standard)
🗣️ Je fume jamais. (Spoken)
❌ Je ne vois pas personne.
✅ Je ne vois personne. (Standard)
🗣️ Je vois personne. (Spoken)
The Rule
In standard French, negation is: ne + ONE negative word ne…pas / ne…jamais / ne…rien / ne…personne. (But don’t stack them.)
