While it was conceived by the conference of the Ministers of Education in 1965, September 08 was officially declared as the World Literacy Day by UNESCO in 1966. The day was a way to ‘remind the international community of the importance of literacy for individuals, communities and societies, and the need for intensified efforts towards more literate societies.’
Every year since then governments, institutions, communities and individuals have been working hard towards achieving this dream. This Teachers Day, Chandigarh BJP Teacher’s Cell came together to organize a felicitation ceremony to appreciate teachers and mentors whose presence transformed the lives of their students, families and the society. Through their diligent efforts, they have improved the lives of many and lit the path for generations to come.
Hon’ble Sh. Arun Sood Ji, President of the BJP Chandigarh UT, admired the work of many such educators who have silently toiled day after day to impart knowledge effectively. Prof. S. C. Gupta , the convener of the Chandigarh BJP Teachers Cell, remembered Swami Vivekananda and his valuable teachings on this day. Paying tribute to Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the first Vice President, Prof. Gupta emphasized the need to emulate the motivational and legendary role of Dr. Radhakrishnan.
On this International Literacy Day, we should recognize the role of educators and celebrate the efforts of all the awardees, who have played an unparalleled role in uplifting the society by spreading knowledge.
