Field Visit to National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) at Karnal, Haryana and Pipli Zoo under PM Usha Scheme
On January 31, 2025, the Department of Zoology of GGDSD College organized a Field Visit to the Pipli Zoo and National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) at Karnal, Haryana an Imperial Institute for Animal Husbandry & Dairying under PM- USHA scheme. The visit was attended by 50 students of B. Sc under supervision of Dr. Indu Mehta accompanied by Dr. Sonika Kapoor and Mr. Sukhwinder Singh.
This field visit to NDRI Karnal, provided a valuable opportunity for the members to actively engage in discussions about the different labs and the working procedures within them. Through these interactions, they were able to gain a deeper understanding of the technologies and methodologies used in the dairy industry. The discussions were not only educational but also fostered critical thinking, allowing the members to better grasp the practical applications of the concepts they had learned. This exposure helped to bridge the gap between theory and practice, making the experience both enriching and insightful.
The event began with an insightful introduction to the functioning of the dairy industry, emphasizing its crucial role in providing research and development support to enhance milk production. The session highlighted the importance of R&D in developing innovative practices that ensure sustainable and high-quality milk production, thereby benefiting both the industry and society at large. Students were educated on the increased demand of the dairy products, its management practices, and the far-reaching benefits to the society., the economy, and the environment. Additionally, the session highlighted its contribution to manpower development programs.
The field visit was supplemented with nature’s embrace with Pipli Zoo which is black buck breeding centre also having a cluster of wild life including Asiatic lion, Blackbuck, Hanuman langur, Chital (spotted deer), Indian leopard, Hyena etc. The enthusiasm of students for learning lead to the overall success of the visit. The field visit proved to be an inspiring experience for their academic and professional growth.
The field visit to NDRI was concluded with valuable insights gained through detailed explanations by the lab professors at NDRI. A heartfelt thank is extended to the Principal of GGDSD College Dr. Ajay Sharma for giving this opportunity to the students.
