A session on Data Sciences was conducted at Vivekanada College, University of Delhi.

The session on Time Series Analysis is coming up on Friday at my alma mater, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics
The first 60 minutes would be the presentation and this will then be followed by a discussion for 30 minutes. Really excited for this session.

In this podcast, Ritika Khurana, Ph.D. Khurana – an applied economist with experience in climate economics, energy economics and political economy – discusses her paper published in World Development. The paper is titled as “Climate change, natural disasters and institutional integrity”, published in World Development journal. She first discusses the motivation of the paper, what’s already been done in literature related to climate change and quality of institutions, data sources and methodology used in the paper. She also discusses about institutions and why they matter for growth. Discussion with respect to policy implications and recommendations are the subject of discussion in the latter half of the podcast.

In this podcast, Sanjukta Basu discusses her paper titled, Effect of Parental Employment Status on Child Care, which was part of her PhD dissertation that she undertook at Tulane University. For her analysis, she uses time use survey and her analysis, employing two stage least square methodology, leads her to conclude that the unemployment in the short-term might have some unexpected benefits, one of them being an increase in child care at the micro level.

In this podcast, Rishabh Shukla talks about his research work that he took as a M.PhiL student in IGIDR. He then talks about his experience of working in India before migrating to Germany. In this podcast, he explains the working of Gradient Boosted Trees, which is one of the widely used maching learning techniques used in regression and classification. Finally, he gives his insight on his experience of working in Germany and the manner in which the work environment in Germany is different than the one in India.

In this podcast, Anup Tiwari talks about his experience of working in ISB, IEG, RBI and then going to get his master degree in economics from University of Connecticut. His experience spans working in both industry and academia. He talks about the use of linear regression technique and logistic regression is common across both industry and academia but modelling is just one part of the job you are expected to do. He, however, stresses the point that identifying the right problem is the key to being able to excel in their roles as data scientists.

In this really insightful podcast with Professor Amit Jain (AJ) Chauradia and most of the discussion revolved around the reseach work which Professor has been doing or is involved in.

The first half of the discussion revolved around some basic framework of human capital at the individual and macro level. In the second half, Professor links human capital with business and entrepreneurship and most of the examples and facts come from Professor's reseach work on this area
