Time has finally claimed C.R.Rao, the most recognised Indian Statistician in academia! A few months back he received the "Noble prize in Statistics", as mentioned in our last post.
A stalwart who is in no way less than an institution himself, let us not forget that his statistical journey started at Department of Statistics, University of Calcutta on 1941 as a student of the first ever postgraduate batch in Statistics in all over Asia. On this mournful day let us not forget to celebrate his almost 103 years of earthly life and immense contribution to the field of Statistics.
Also let us not forget about his teacher of Statistics at University of Calcutta Late Anil Kumar Bhattacharya who allegedly had developed one of the famous research work named after C.R.Rao, the Cramer-Rao Lower bound!
Let us not forget about his batchmate Late Hari Kinkar Nandi who secured a very close 1st class 2nd while C R Rao secured the 1st class 1st. Whereas C R Rao was the Ph.D. Scholar of "The Father of Modern Statistics" the legendary R.A.Fisher, H.K.Nandi had no formal Ph.D. degree yet had Ph.D. scholars like S.K.Chatterjee, P.K.Sen, J.K.Ghosh and many more.
