The purpose was very simple: to bring students to a common platform and create opportunities for dialogue. Hopefully, we have been able to do that. We have participants from different parts of the country—undergraduate and postgraduate students, students on the threshold of research, and early-career researchers. It is a small initiative for those interested in expanding the frontiers of literary studies and research. Looking forward to a wonderful academic exchange.

Abstract submission deadline extended!
The response has been overwhelming. We have received a remarkable number of abstracts from different corners of the country.
In response to several requests for an extension, the department has decided to extend the last date of abstract submission to 12 May 2026. Interested students and scholars who could not submit their abstracts within the previous deadline now have another opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas.
Please treat this as the final call, as the department will require time to scrutinise the submissions and communicate the acceptance of abstracts accordingly.

We laughed. We cried. We became angry at times. Felt annoyed. We experienced how theatre touches the subtle strings of the body and mind, and how communication remains central to human relationships.

During the World Theatre Day celebration hosted by the Drama and Fine Arts Club, Department of English, St. Xavier's College, Burdwan, Shri Luckyjee Gupta guided us through a breathtaking tapestry of narratives. He shared stories of the familiar world around us, yet presented them in ways that felt strikingly unfamiliar and deeply moving.

The empathetic representation of common people in both Behroopia and the celebrated Maa Mujhe Tagore Bana De reaffirmed our faith in the timeless adage: theatre is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people.

St. Xavier's College, Burdwan, remains deeply indebted to Shri Luckyjee Gupta and his team for this unforgettable experience.

An Unforgettable Day of Cinema and Inspiration at St. Xavier’s College, Burdwan! 🌟🎬
What a phenomenal success! Our hearts are full after hosting a truly magical interactive session with the visionary director Arindam Sil and the legendary icon Mrs. Rituparna Sengupta from the team of film, 'Karpur'! The energy in the college seminar hall was electric as the duo graced us with their presence, shared profound insights from their glittering careers, and motivated our students with their powerful words.
A World Theatre Day to remember ! The absolute highlight of the day was seeing four of our own incredibly talented students selected to step up on stage and act live alongside the great Rituparna Sengupta! It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will be cherished forever. 🎭
Following the inspiring session, a special screening of 'Karpur' was organized for our faculty and students, leaving everyone spellbound.
A massive thank you to Mr. Arindam Sil and Mrs. Rituparna Sengupta for their warmth, wisdom, and for giving us a day we will never forget. You have truly inspired the next generation of storytellers.
What was your favorite moment from the day? Share it with us in the comments! 👇

A slice of life, evocative of a sojourner travelling across states, embracing language, religion, culture, and the very smell of the soil. A thespian who transforms a railway compartment into a stage, a playground into his amphitheater.
Luckyjee Gupta.
A man who has become more than a name. Mr. Gupta will be visiting St. Xavier's College, Burdwan, on 31 March 2026, adding yet another location to his personal cartography. Experience the man who has redefined the very notion of theatre. No matter which discipline you are from, no matter which subject you study, his performance is profoundly relevant to every one of us.
He speaks of life. He speaks of sensibilities.
Come, let us experience life.

Why theatre?
The question remains as pertinent today as ever. In ailments, in joyance, in involvement, in riddance—across ages and cultures— theatre has been crafting and carrying our stories.
The Drama and Fine Arts Club, Department of English, St. Xavier’s College, Burdwan, celebrates World Theatre Day on 31 March 2026 to explore these myriad dimensions and reflect on how theatre continues to remain relevant even amidst adversities.
We are privileged to host Lucky Gupta—a renowned thespian—a true traveller of theatre—who is redefining performance as a powerful medium of communication. We look forward to experiencing his compelling solo acts 'Behroopia' and 'Maa Mujhe Tagore Bana De', the latter having already acquired an almost mythical stature.
We warmly invite theatre enthusiasts from Burdwan and beyond to join us in this celebration—and cerebration—of theatre.
