On 11th and 12th of July 2020 our college Kandra Radhakanta Kundu Mahavidyalaya has successfully organized the Two day long Inter-departmental Webinar on the topic “Interdisciplinary Approaches to the Pandemic” amid the crisis under the excellent guidance of the Honorable Principal of the college Dr. Mrinal Kanti Chattopadhyay. The webinar is the product of the encouraging initiative taken by the convenor of the webinar, Mr. Bidhan Mondal, Assistant Professor, Dept. of English, KRKKM.
The college has an enriching history of conducting such academic forums inspired and led by the Principal of the college, but it was for the first time that the college endeavored to take such an innovative initiative of transcending the disciplinarian boundaries and engaging our brilliant departmental faculty of this college in an online platform. Amidst this poignant situation controlled by the pandemic crisis this is high time for academic solidarity from all disciplines to break the shackles by engaging in academic discussions to share their views on the crisis time and the way forward after it subsides.
The webinar focused primarily to induce versatile and diversified evaluations of the Covid-19 pandemic, its causes and impacts. It was inaugurated by an insightful speech by the Honourable Principal of our College, Dr. Mrinal Kanti Chattoopadhay encompassing the holistic approach towards the Covid-19 pandemic. The webinar was graced by the illuminating and enriching paper presentations graced by Dr. Ananada Dulal Bagdi, Associate professor of Bengali, Dr. Manjari Sarkar Basu, Associate Professor of Geography, Dr. Aditi Chatterjee, Assistant Professor of Bengali, Dr. Avijit Singha, Assistant Professor of History, Dr Krishna Gopal Thakur SACT, Dept. of Chemistry, Arnab Mallick SACT, Dept of Bengali, Sahabaj Ahammed Mondal SACT, Dept of Mass Commumication and Journalism to name a few.
The webinar has not only been witnessed by the faculty and the students of the college but was actually blessed by the scholarly presence of Professors from other colleges like Bishwanath Saha, Dept of English, Raj College. Dr Ujjal Gangopadhayay, Dept of Bengali, Suri Vidyasagar College, Kartik Mukherjee, Dept of History, Galsi Mahavidyalaya to name a few. Not only academicians but the webinar attracted attention from even the IT industry as it encountered critical insights into the impact of Covid 19 on the IT sector by Joydeep Bhattacharya, IT Engineer of Cognizant, Kolkata. Where the Department of Bengali and English tried to trace the pestilential impact on literature, the Dept of Geography tried to assess the pandemic’s impact on Environment and Agriculture and the resultant economic recession. A critical insight has been provided by Mass Communication Dept on the very important trend of misinformation and fake news during the times of Pandemic. The Mass communication Department has undertaken a brilliant job by handling all the technical operations related to the webinar which was conducted in the online platform of Google Meet.
The webinar was bestowed with positively encouraging and critically enriching reviews from Prof. Bishwanath Saha. The college expresses its deep gratitude to the Head of the institution, Convener of this webinar and his entire team for such an initiative. Details are given in college website. The webinar surely left an indelible impact on us enabling us with a redefined understanding of the Pandemic Crisis and a renewed vigour to handle it. Meditating upon the success of the webinar the college aspires to hold such academic platform for scholarly discussions in future.
