कालीदास अपने समय के उद्भट विद्वान थे परन्तु प्रारंभ में वे अति मूर्ख थे उनकी पत्नी विद्वतमा द्वारा लज्जित किए जाने बाद कालीदास ने ज्ञानार्जन किया तथा जब वह घर पहुंचे तो उन्होंने निम्न शब्दों से अपनी पत्नी से द्वार खोलने के लिए कहा कपाटम उद्यात्य सुन्दरी (कपट खोलो सुंदरी) इस पर कालिदास की पत्नी कहती है [अस्ति कश्चित वाक्गविशेष ""कोई विद्वान जान पड़ता है""]। कालिदास ने इन्ही तीन शब्दों पर तीन महाकाव्य लिख डाला

अस्ति से कुमारसंभव का प्रारंभ अस्ति उत्तर दिशायां हिमालय नाम नागाधिराजा पार्वते

कस्चितसे मेघदूत का प्रारंभ कस्चितकांता से होता है।।

वाग से रघुवंश वागर्थविव से प्रारंभ होता है

उपमा कलिदासस्य ,भारवेर्थार्थ गौरव:
दंडिना पदलालित्य माघा, संती त्रयो गुण:।।

कालीदास वैदर्भी रीति की कवि माने जाते है उपमा में कालीदास के जोड़ का कोई अन्य कवि नहीं हुआ।।

View of ASI excavations at Nalanda, which continued between the years 1915 and 1936.

The Buddhist site of Nalanda, located about 15 kilometres south of Biharsharif and about 95 kilometres southeast of Patna in Bihar, is protected under the Patna Circle of ASI.

The history of Nalanda dates back to the time of Buddha in the 6th century BCE, but it rose into prominence in the 5th century as a great monastic and educational centre, attracting students from distant countries, including Xuanzang from China.

Nalanda Mahavihara, regarded as one of the greatest universities of the ancient world, was founded by Kumaragupta I (413—455 ce) of the Gupta dynasty and continued through the reigns of King Harshavardhana of Kannauj (606—647) and the Pala kings of east India (8th-I2th century).
