Historic milestone: Birjhora Mahavidyalaya welcomes inaugural batch of 80 science students of postgraduate programme — Today marks a monumental chapter in the history of higher education in Lower Assam. Exactly forty years after its inception in 1986, Birjhora Mahavidyalaya (a premier constituent college of Bongaigaon University) proudly announced its transition into a postgraduate institution with the commencement of its first-ever batch of Postgraduate (PG) programmes across six core science disciplines. A total of 80 pioneer students have been successfully enrolled in this historic inaugural batch across the departments of Botany, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, and Zoology. To mark this historic transition, a grand Induction Meeting was celebrated today at the College Auditorium, drawing together university dignitaries, college administrators, faculty, and the inaugural batch of PG students. In his warm welcome address, Dr. Chinmoy Bhattacharjee, Principal of Birjhora Mahavidyalaya, reflected deeply on the institution's transformative journey from an undergraduate science college to a postgraduate Institution. Mr. Tarun Kumar Choudhury, President of the Governing Body, reminisced about the college's humble beginnings in 1986. He emphasized its evolution into the premier science institute of Lower Assam, culminating in its modern-day development as a vital constituent college of Bongaigaon University with Postgraduate Programme. The event was graced by Chief Guest Prof. Bhabani Prasad Sharma, Controller of Examination, Bongaigaon University with an inspiring and regulatory address outlining the examination regulations and standards under the university framework. Aligning with modern global educational standards, Dr. Dilip Kumar Roy, Academic Convenor of Birjhora Mahavidyalaya, delivered an in-depth PowerPoint presentation mapping out the academic path ahead. He detailed the course structure, rigorous curriculum, and the National Credit Frameworks designed specifically for this 2-year Postgraduate programme, completely compliant with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The induction concluded with an interaction session with the new postgraduate students. The landmark event officially drew to a close with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Dilip Kumar Roy.

The successful launch of the PG departments cements Birjhora Mahavidyalaya’s position as a regional powerhouse for scientific learning, research, and academic advancement.
