Success stories from the Department
1. Shubhojit Karmakar, a student of FYUGP 4th semester was selected as an intern at the PM USHA WINTER INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME of Dibrugarh University for the session 2025-2026 amongst 10 other students from the state. He completed his work under the supervision of Dr. Rajesh Kumar Shah, Associate professor, Department of Life Sciences, Dibrugarh University.
2. Husniyara Khatun, a student of FYUGP 6th semester achieved a remarkable feat by qualifying for the GATE 2026 in Life Sciences (XL), conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati in her very first attempt.

The Department of Zoology, PDUAMT won the First prize in the Cultural rally competition of 9th Annual College Festival. The theme being "Jajaboror Jeebon Porikroma (1926-2011)". The Department congratulates all the participants for continuing the winning streak.

We're elated to announce that Usharani Narzary from the Department of Zoology PDUAMT has been awarded "The Best Graduate" for the session 2025-2026 by the Best Practice Implementation Committee for her remarkable achievement of obtaining the highest CGPA among all students of the college in the B.Sc examination held under Gauhati University. We congratulate her on this remarkable achievement and wish her a bright future ahead.

Remarkably, this is the second consecutive year that the Best Graduate award has been conferred upon a student from our Department of Zoology, PDUAMT, underscoring the department's commitment to academic excellence.

The Department of Zoology, PDUAMT is extremely proud of the accomplishment of Dr. Bhanushree Baishya who earned her PhD degree from the esteemed Mizoram University under the supervision of Prof. G. Gurusubramanian sir. Her doctoral thesis titled "Organ specific toxicity of Copper and Cadmium nanoparticles on Swiss Albino mice" is a testament to her perseverance.

As part of the World Environment Day, this year, Department of Zoology, Department of Botany and NSS Unit in association with IQAC, PDUAMT is organising an online Essay writing competition. Interested students studying in HS and UG may participate in the competition. Deadline is 03/06/2025. The winner will be awarded with attractive prizes and certificates.

On 8th May 2025, the students of B.Sc. 2nd and 4th semester, Department of Zoology, PDUAM Tulungia, undertook an educational field trip to Bodoland Silk Park, Adabari, Kokrajhar. A total of 32 students participated in the visit, accompanied by faculty members Dr. Rituparna Sarma (HoD, Zoology) and Ms. Gayatree Hazarika.

The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to sericulture and its relevance to rural livelihood and socio-economic development. During the program, the demonstrators—Ms. Tunu Brahma, Mr. Ganesh Talukdar, and Ms. Kalpajita Basumatary—offered detailed and engaging explanations on various aspects of silk production, including silkworm rearing, cocoon processing, and weaving techniques. Their expert guidance greatly enriched the students’ understanding of the biological and economic aspects of sericulture.

The Department of Zoology extends heartfelt gratitude to the entire team of Bodoland Silk Park for their warm hospitality and valuable support in making the visit a meaningful and enriching experience.

Three students Mofidul Islam, Shubhajit Karmakar and Surajit Karmakar were sponsored by the Dept of Zoology, PDUAMT under Departmental Best Practices to attend a Hands on Training on Pearl culture Techniques organised by Guwahati Biotech Park and Dept of Zoology Cotton University. The training was mostly targeted for skill enhancement, networking with experts and entrepreneurship development.
