Brief of the Lecture Delivered by
Dr. Animesh Kanti Manna, WBCS (Exe)

Theme: A Scientific Three-Year Strategy to Crack West Bengal Civil Services(Executive) Ect. Examinations
1. Fix Your Target
* Set a clear target year for appearing in the examination.
* A scientific and disciplined preparation of three years is sufficient to crack examinations like WBCS (Exe).
* Invest three years sincerely, and the next thirty years will be yours.
2. Forget Your Academic Background
* Your school, college, stream, or previous academic performance does not determine your success in competitive examinations.
* What matters is your preparation from today onwards.
Phase I: First Six Months – Build the Foundation
a) Read School Textbooks (Classes V–VIII)
* Thoroughly study all textbooks from Classes V to VIII.
* Do not worry about memorising everything.
* The objective is to build a strong conceptual foundation and fill any gaps in basic knowledge.
b) Mathematics Practice
* Solve every Mathematics exercise from Classes V to VIII.
* Develop speed, accuracy, and confidence in basic arithmetic and reasoning.
c) Improve English Daily
* Read an English newspaper every day.
* Start with one column daily.
* Gradually increase your reading so that by the end of 180 days, you can comfortably read an entire newspaper page.
* Learn new vocabulary through continuous reading rather than memorising isolated word lists.
d) Develop Study Discipline
* Increase self-study gradually from 2–3 hours per day to 8–10 hours per day.
* The first six months should focus almost entirely on self-study.
e) Make Sacrifices
* Eliminate distractions and activities unrelated to your goal.
* Remember:
“So that later you never have to regret saying, ‘আর একটু পড়লে হয়ে যেত।’” when you will be at yours 40.
Phase II: After Six Months
a) Read Classes IX & X Textbooks Repeatedly
* Read all textbooks from Classes IX and X multiple times.
* The first reading will be difficult.
* Do not worry if you forget everything initially.
* Repeated reading is the key to mastery.
b) Study the WBCS Syllabus
* Download and thoroughly understand the latest WBCS (Exe) syllabus available on the West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) website.
c) Build Core Subjects
* Begin standard textbooks on:
* Indian Constitution
* Indian Economy
* Read these books repeatedly (around 20 times initially, aiming for nearly 50 readings over three years).
d) Writing Practice
* Start writing answers in your optional/main subjects at least two days every week.
e) Avoid Digital Dependency
* Avoid excessive dependence on YouTube channels or digital learning during this stage.
* Build your concepts primarily through books and self-study.
Phase III: After One Year
* Begin systematic answer-writing practice.
* Regularly revise previously studied topics.
* Read magazines such as Civil Services Chronicle and other quality current affairs publications.
* Prepare subject-wise question papers yourself.
* Exchange question papers with your peer group and solve each other’s papers.
Remember:
Your study group is not your competitor. The world is much larger than your classroom.
Phase IV: After One and a Half Years
a) Intensive Writing Practice
* Continue studying at home.
* Attend coaching or study centres mainly for answer-writing practice.
* Let peers evaluate your answers and discuss improvements.
b) Aim for the “Big Push”
* To crack both Preliminary and Main examinations, you need a final intensive effort that significantly improves your score.
( main paper writting style and interview will be discussed later on )
Quantify Your Preparation
Preparation should always be measure
* Prepare weekly subject wise timetable.
* Track your daily and weekly achievements.
* Analyse whether your targets are being met.
Weekly Off-Day
* Keep one planned off-day every week.
* This is not a wasted day; it helps maintain long-term consistency.
* Use it to:
* Assess your progress.
* Review your study plan.
* Identify shortcomings.
* Revise your timetable.
You will fail initially—not “if”, but almost certainly during the first one or two weeks.
Do not become discouraged.
Bring your study train back onto the track.
Stick to your weekly routine.
Review and improve your plan every week.
Maintain a written record of your preparation.
Follow-up
A review session will be held after 3–4 weeks, where every aspirant will present:
* Their study plan,
* Progress achieved,
* Weekly analysis, and
* Future strategy.

“Success in Civil Services is not decided by intelligence alone. It is decided by discipline, consistency, repeated revision, answer-writing practice, and scientific planning. Three years of dedicated preparation can transform the next thirty years of your life.”
