“A Season of Conviviality” comes as a pause, a step back to glance at the hundred years gone by and scrutiny into the Kala Bhavana of hundred years later.
Kala Bhavan, the art school and the harbinger of Visva Bharati – the world university in Santiniketan, had humble beginnings. It began without a structured curriculum. In the absence of a fixed axiom, an ordinary space became a site of interest, drawing together scholars and creative minds – artists and musicians alike.
Current Santiniketan could be called an assemblage of the multiple - a testing ground for a spectrum of motivations, interests and exploration of art language - a maze from within which one has to configure a community of senses. That is, at least partially, the pedagogic function of an artist in an institutional setting. The praxis falls in the area of possibilities.
The contemporary circumstances of creativity are guided by a fresh algorithm rising out of a new engagement with technology besides an aesthetic engagement which continues to be in sync with tradition.
Drop by at Lalit Kala Akademi, Delhi to find the different forms and temporalties walking with each other in this new conviviality, representing the multiple, and describing a new reality as it prepares for the future.
The exhibition is curated by Prof. Anshuman Dasgupta with Prof. Soumik Nandy Majumdar and Prof. Sanjoy Mallik.
