Subject: Observance of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Fortnight (Birth & Death Anniversary) from 23rd June to 6th July, 2026
As per the directive of the School Education Department, Government of West Bengal vide Memo No.: 742-SC/APL, Dated: 22.06.2026, issued by the Deputy Director of School Education (Admin), Directorate of School Education,Government of West Bengal, it has been decided to observe the period from 23rd June, 2026 to 6th July, 2026 as “Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Smriti Paksha” through special fortnight-long programmes in schools.
It may be noted that 23rd June marks the death anniversary of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, while 6th July marks his birth anniversary. The principal objective of this initiative is to create awareness among students, teachers, and educational staff regarding his life, works, literary contributions, and service to society.
Guidelines for Observance of the Fortnight:
1. Title of the Programme:
The initiative may be observed under the title “Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Smriti Paksha.”
2. Organisation of Activities:
At least 3–4 activities should be organised during the fortnight. Suggested activities include:
📖 Memorial Lectures
• Seminars
📝 Essay Competitions
🎤 Seminars & Debate সেশনস
📚 Reading of his writings and speeches
🖼️ Exhibitions highlighting his life and contributions
3. Preparation of Educational Materials:
Necessary educational materials for institutional use should be prepared and disseminated.
4. Use of Archival Information:
Institutions are encouraged to explore and utilise relevant archival information, if available, from the State Archives.
Other Important Instructions:
• Active participation of all students, teachers, and staff members should be ensured.
• A brief report on the programmes conducted should be prepared.
• Geo-tagged photographs and relevant documents should be preserved in the institutional archives for future reference.
• The directive is to be treated as highly important and implemented on priority basis.
All schools across the State are hereby directed to observe the above programmes in connection with the birth and death anniversary of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee as per the prescribed guidelines.

The initiative aims to inspire students and create awareness regarding his life, vision, works, and contributions to society.
