এক অসাধারণ প্রাকৃতিক পরিবেশ। “তিলপাড়া ব্যারেজ” ভারতের পশ্চিমবঙ্গ রাজ্যের বীরভূম জেলার ময়ূরাক্ষী নদীর উপর নির্মিত একটি বাঁধ। Suri শহর থেকে ৫.৫ কিলোমিটার দূরে অবস্থিত। ব্যারেজের দৈর্ঘ্য ৩০৯ মিটার। ভারত ১৯৪৭এ স্বাধীন হয়, তার দুবছর পর ১৯৪৯ সালে এই ব্যারেজটি নির্মাণ সম্পূর্ণ হয়। সে সময়ে ব্যারেজটি নির্মাণে খরচ হয়েছিল ১.১১ কোটি টাকা। শীতের শুরুতে বহু পাখি গাঙ্গেয় সমভূমির দিকে উড়ে আসে। এদের মধ্যে ‘বার হেডেড গুজ’ (দাগি রাজহাঁস), রেড ক্রেস্টেড পচারড (রাঙা মুড়িহাঁস), বিশেষ প্রজাতির পানকৌড়ির মতো পাখিরা প্রতি বছর তিলপাড়া ব্যারাজ, নীল নির্জন জলাধার, বল্লভপুর অভয়ারণ্যে আসে। নভেম্বরের শেষ থেকে মার্চের মাঝামাঝি পর্যন্ত পরিযায়ী পাখিরা ভিড় জমাতে শুরু করে। বীরভূম জেলার এই ,ময়ূরাক্ষী, অজয়, ব্রাহ্মনী, পাগলা বাঁশলোই নদীর বন্যার বিষয়ে তৎকালীন ব্রিটিশ ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট এবং কালেক্টর হিসাবে কর্মরত L.S.S. O'Malley লিপিবদ্ধ করছিলেন। বীরভূম জেলার জন্য, O'Malley উল্লেখ করেছেন "1787 সালে একটি বন্যা হয়েছিল যা বলা হয়, কিছু জায়গায় গ্রাম, বাসিন্দা এবং গবাদি পশু, মাটির ফসল, যা কিছু ছিল তার সাথে ভেসে গিয়েছিল। তিনি আরো লিপিবদ্ধ করেছেন যে "1806 সালে ময়ূরাক্ষী এবং অজয়ের জল হঠাৎ বৃদ্ধি ঘটে এবং বন্যায় পুরো গ্রাম ভেসে যায়। 1902 সালের সেপ্টেম্বরে, ভারী বৃষ্টিপাতের কারণে ব্রাহ্মণী এবং ময়ূরাক্ষী তীর উপচে পড়ে এবং আশেপাশের অঞ্চল কিছু জায়গায 12 থেকে 20 ফুট গভীরে ভেষে যায়।।

Some of the historically important floods in this river were recorded by L.S.S. O'Malley in the Bengal District Gazetteers for the districts of Murshidabad and Birbhum. For the district of Birbhum, O'Malley has noted "in 1787 there was a high flood which it is said, in some places swept off villages, inhabitants and cattle, the crops on the ground, with everything that was moveable." O'Malley also recorded that "in 1806 the Mayurakshi and Ajay had a sudden extraordinary rise and floods washed away whole villages." In September 1902, because of heavy rains the Brahmani and the Mayurakshi overflowed their banks and inundated the surrounding country in some places to the depth of 4 to 6 metres (12 to 20 ft).

In the four decades between 1960 and 2000 only five years could be identified as flood-free years, when only less than 500 square kilometres (190 sq mi) of area were inundated. After major floods in 1978, West Bengal suffered consecutively in 1998, 1999 and 2000. In 1978, seventy two hours of continuous and concentrated rainfall over the western river basin areas of the Bhagirathi viz. from the Pagla-Bansloi to the Ajay, generated so huge flood volume that all embankments on the eastern side of the Bhagirathi were almost washed away and the whole of Nadia district, a larger part of Murshidabad district and northern areas of North 24 Parganas district were flooded and remained underwater for a long time. Construction of embankments is the only structural measure available for the provision of relief to the people. Major embankments line long stretches of such rivers as Mayurakshi, Dwarka, Brahmani and Ajay.

ফকিরের বিখ্যাত গান- 'ধন্য ধন্য বলি তারে'।

লালন (১৭৭৪ – ১৮৯০) ছিলেন বহুমুখী প্রতিভার অধিকারী একজন বাঙালি; যিনি ফকির লালন, লালন সাঁই, লালন শাহ, মহাত্মা লালন ইত্যাদি নামেও পরিচিত ছিলেন। তিনি ছিলেন একজন আধ্যাত্মিক ফকির সাধক, মানবতাবাদী, সমাজ সংস্কারক এবং দার্শনিক। তিনি অসংখ্য গানের গীতিকার, সুরকার ও গায়ক ছিলেন। লালন ছিলেন বাউল গানের অগ্রদূতদের অন্যতম একজন । লালন ছিলেন একজন মানবতাবাদী সাধক। যিনি ধর্ম, বর্ণ, গোত্রসহ সকল প্রকার জাতিগত বিভেদ থেকে সরে এসে মানবতাকে সর্বোচ্চ স্থান দিয়েছিলেন।
অসাম্প্রদায়িক এই মনোভাব থেকেই তিনি তার গান রচনা করেছেন। তার গান ও দর্শন যুগে যুগে প্রভাবিত করেছে রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর, কাজী নজরুল ইসলাম ও অ্যালেন গিন্সবার্গের মতো বহু খ্যাতনামা কবি, সাহিত্যিক, দার্শনিক, বুদ্ধিজীবীসহ অসংখ্য মানুষকে।
