On 26th May, 2026, the Department of Economics and the Department of Philosophy, Bijni College jointly organised an Outreach Programme at Bijni Adarsha U.M.B. School. The programme aimed to encourage social awareness, community engagement, and interaction between students.

Ms. Sabita Ray, HoD, Department of Economics and Vice Principal of Bijni College, spoke on the importance of such outreach activities and encouraged students to actively participate in them. Students from both the Department of Economics and the Department of Philosophy attended the programme.

A speech competition on Zubeen Garg, the legendary singer of Assam, was organised among the school students. A plantation drive was also carried out in the school campus to spread awareness about environmental protection.

The students of the school were very enthusiastic and happy with the visit, while the college students also gained valuable experiences from the programme. The Headmistress and teachers of the school were also present on the occasion.

The Department of Economics, Bijni College, Bijni organized a 30-hour internship on Retail Market Operations under the Bijni Municipal Board, conducted over 10 days (3 hours per day).
During the programme, students gained practical exposure to various aspects of retail market operations, including market functioning, pricing, and vendor interactions. The internship provided valuable field-based learning and helped students connect theory with real-world practices.
Upon successful completion, certificates were awarded to all participating students.

The Department of Economics organized a Career Counseling Programme on 8th May, 2026 at the Major Room, Department of Economics, with the aim of guiding students towards making informed career choices and exploring future opportunities. A total of 23 students attended the programme and actively participated in the session.
Ms. Sabita Ray, distinguished alumna of the Department from the 1990–91 batch, attended the programme as the resource person. She guided the students on how to choose suitable career paths based on their interests and abilities and highlighted the diverse career opportunities available in the present scenario. Sharing her own experiences, she encouraged the students to stay focused, confident, and determined while planning their future careers.
Saurabhi Marandi, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Bijni College, also addressed the students and stressed the importance of soft skills, communication abilities, self-confidence, and the need to dream big to achieve success in life. The programme was highly informative and motivating for the students.

The Department of Economics conducted the Induction Programme for its Add-on Course on "Fundamentals of Data Analysis" on 11th April,2026.
Malay Kr. Chanda outlined the course syllabus, while Moitreyee D. Baruah explained the assessment process. Sabita Ray, Head of the Department, emphasized the growing importance of data analysis skills.
The course will cover data collection using Google Forms, organization and analysis through MS Excel and statistical software, and effective data presentation techniques—equipping students with practical, real-world skills.

The Department of Economics, Bijni College, proudly inaugurated the first issue of its departmental newsletter Equilibria (Volume 1, Issue 1) for the academic session 2024–25.
The newsletter was formally inaugurated by Dr. Birhash Giri Basumatary, Principal of Bijni College, in the esteemed presence of Dr. Umananada Basumatary, Head of the Department of History, Bijni College.
The occasion was graced by the faculty members of the Department of Economics — Mrs. Sabita Ray, Head of the Department, along with Saurabhi Marandi and Moitreyee D Baruah. The event also witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students of the Department of Economics.
Equilibria reflects the academic spirit, creativity, and collective efforts of the department, providing a platform for students and faculty to express ideas, research, and insights in the field of economics. The Department of Economics, Bijni College, organized a Soft Skill Development Programme titled “ICT Skills for Research and Data Presentation” on 20th March, 2026. The programme aimed to enhance students’ digital competencies and equip them with essential tools for academic research and effective data presentation.
The session was conducted by Saurabhi Marandi, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, who provided practical training on the use of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word in research work. Students were guided on organizing and analyzing data using Excel, as well as formatting and structuring research papers professionally using Word.
The interactive and hands-on nature of the session made it highly engaging, enabling students to gain practical insights into the application of ICT tools in academic writing. The programme reflects the department’s continuous effort to foster skill development and prepare students for the evolving demands of research and academia.

On 7th March, 2026, the Department of Economics, Bijni College organized a one-day State Level Seminar on “Dynamics of Urban Economic Activities and Development” in collaboration with the Department of Economics, Manikpur Anchalik College, Manikpur. The seminar was primarily student-focused, providing a platform for academic discussion and learning.
Ganesh Chandra Saha delivered the keynote address, offering valuable insights into the theme. A total of 14 papers were presented, all by students, along with active participation from many attendees without papers.
The seminar was attended by the Principal and Heads of various departments, making it a meaningful and engaging academic event.
