-indica, the prickly pear, is a species of cactus that has long been a domesticated crop plant grown in agricultural economies throughout arid and semiarid parts of the world.

* Opuntia are consumed widely as food.
* The fruits are commercialized in many parts of the world, eaten raw, and have one of the highest concentrations of vitamin C of any fruit.
* The “leaves” (or cladodes - technically stems) are cooked and eaten as a vegetable known as nopalitos.
* They are sliced into strips, skinned or unskinned, and fried with eggs and jalapeños, served as a breakfast treat.
* They have a texture and flavor like string beans.
* The fruits or leaves can be boiled, used raw, or blended with fruit juice, cooked on a frying pan, and used as a side dish with chicken, or added to tacos.

1. Opuntia ficus-indica are planted in hedges to provide a cheap but effective erosion control in the Mediterranean basin.
2. Under those hedges and adjacent areas soil physical properties, nitrogen and organic matter are considerably improved.
3. Structural stability of the soil is enhanced, runoff and erosion are reduced, while water storage capacity and permeability is enhanced.
4. Prickly pear plantations also have a positive impact on plant growth of other species by improving severe environmental conditions which facilitate colonization and development of herbaceous species.

5. Opuntia ficus-indica is being advantageously used in Tunisia and Algeria to slow and direct sand movement and enhance the restoration of vegetative cover, minimizing deterioration of built terraces with its deep and strong rooting system.

is a genus of polypore fungi in the family that includes about 80 species, many from tropical regions.
Because of their genetic diversity and use in traditional Asian medicines, they are a genus with possible economic value.
Ganoderma can be differentiated from other polypores because they have a .
They may be called shelf mushrooms or bracket fungi.

👇
Kingdom : Fungi
Division : Basidiomycota
Class : Agaricomycetes
Order : Polyporales
Family : Ganodermataceae
Genus : Ganoderma P.Karst (1881)

..
Ganoderma are characterized by basidiocarps that are large, perennial, woody brackets also called "CONKS".
They are lignicolous and leathery either with or without a stem.
The fruit bodies typically grow in a fan-like or hoof-like form on the trunks of living or dead trees.
They have double-walled, truncate spores with yellow to brown ornamented inner layers.

.. 👇

Some Ganoderma species can cause major long-term crop losses, especially with trees:

G. orbiforme (= G. boninense), G. zonatum and G. miniatocinctum are responsible for basal stem rot disease in 🌴 🌴 plantations.
G. philippii and G. pseudoferreum are responsible for the root rot of cacao, coffee, rubber and tea trees.

.. 👇

For centuries, Ganoderma species have been used in traditional medicine in many parts of Asia.
Several species of Ganoderma contain diverse phytochemicals with undefined properties in vivo, such as and , an area of investigation under basic research.

Various Ganoderma species are used in traditional medicine for supposed benefits and have been investigated for their potential effects in humans, there is no evidence from high-quality clinical research that Ganoderma as a whole mushroom or its phytochemicals have any effect in humans, such as in treating cancer.
