On March 12, 2026, Veterinary College Gadag observed International Women's Day. Over thirty female farmers took part in the event organized by the Department of Agriculture, Gadag's ATMA program. There were college faculty members in attendance. As part of their practical curriculum on panel discussions, success stories, training programs, ATMA programs, study tours, etc., third-year BVSc and AH students enrolled in Extension Education courses participated in the event. Dr. B. Ramachandra, the college's dean, oversaw the event. Drs. Vinay P. Tikare, Shreyansh Hosure, P. S. Banakar, and Shiva Kumar K. Radder coordinated the program. Smt. Basamma B. Badamagatti, a prosperous dairy farmer from Shiggavi, served as the guest and resource person. "Role of women in Livestock Rearing" was the topic of an interactive session and panel discussion. Basamma thanked the Animal Husbandry Polytechnic Shiggavi Extension Services, a member of KVAFSU, Bidar, for helping her succeed as a livestock farmer. She also described how she went from earning a living by working in other people's homes to becoming independent and self-sufficient through dairy farming. She described in great detail how she began her journey with a single crossbread cow and is currently raising eight cows that yield between 80 and 100 liters of milk every day. She also discussed the challenges she encountered, particularly as a woman with limited resources. She also described how she visited various government agencies, went to training sessions, and used various programs to help her become a self-sufficient woman who served as an inspiration to many other local women farmers.
