ODIA GIRL BAGS GOLD MEDAL FOR INDIA IN INTERNATIONAL WUSHU CHAMPIONSHIP HELD AT RUSSIA
Odia Girl Ms.SWETARANI MAHANTA (FROM PUMAS - BARBIL, KEONJHAR) has returned back to Bhubaneswar from Moscow, Russia after winning a GOLD MEDAL for India in Wushu at the MOSCOW WUSHU STAR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2023 which was organised under the sanction of Ministry of Sports Council, Russia from 03rd - 08th May 2023 at Moscow, Russia.
She won the Gold in Junior Category (Below 48Kg Girls) in Wushu Sanda (Combat Fight) after defeating her opponents from Azerbaijan, Indonesia and Russia respectively.
She was selected to represent the Indian Wushu Team after bagging a Gold Medal for Odisha in KHELO INDIA WOMEN'S WUSHU NATIONAL LEAGUE 2023 held at Jammu & Kashmir in the month of February. The entire expense of the selected Indian Wushu Team for Russia was borne by Sports Authority of India (SAI).
The Indian Wushu Team was praised and congratulated by Shri. Narendra Modi (Hon'ble Prime Minister of India) and Shri. Anurag Thakur (Hon'ble Sports Minister of India) on their Official Twitter Account for winning 17 Medals (10 Gold, 04 Silver, 03 Bronze) for India. The team also received a Grand Reception at New Delhi by Sports Authority of India on their arrival.
Swetarani was received today at Bhubaneswar Airport by Officials and Members from Wushu Association of Orissa (State Wushu Federation) and Delegates from Directorate of Sports & Youth Services, Govt. Of Odisha.
It is really a great moment for all of us in Odisha to proudly produce one more World Champion in Wushu for India, informed by Pruthwiraj Harichandan (Treasurer, Wushu - Odisha).
Er. S. S. Harichandan (President - Wushu Odisha) has wished all the best success to Swetarani and her coach Pankaj Mahanta for this huge achievement and also pray for more and more success in Wushu in the near future.
Odisha has been producing numerous numbers of International and National Medalists in Wushu inspite of lack in training facilities in the state. The amount of result will definitely touch a new high if suitable required training facilities are provided to more potential players informed by Pradyumna Behera (General Secretary, Wushu - Odisha).

The Indian athletes performed exceptionally well at the recently concluded 2023, bringing laurels to the nation. The team bagged 17 medals, of which there were 10 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze.
L. Linthoingambi and Priyanka Devi in the sub-junior girl's division clinched gold, while H. Langlentombi Devi secured a silver in the junior girl's division.
Mercy Ngaimong and Mepung Lamu earned silver & bronze, respectively, in the senior's girls category, and Nyeman Wangsu and K Luxmi Devi also secured bronze medals.
The Sanda (Fight) event saw commendable performances from the Sub-Junior Girls, such as Jiya, Sweta Rani Mahanta, and Himani, who claimed gold medals in their respective weight categories.
Juniors Girls division's Sonia, Himanshi, Komal, Deepika, and K Chaoba Devi secured gold and silver medals in the Wushu, while the senior's girls category saw Onilu Tega and N Roshibina Devi triumph and secure gold in their weight divisions.
Congratulations to all these shining stars who have made India proud.
