Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Deemed to be University, organized Santali Language Day 2026
07/01/2026
The Department of Santali at KISS Deemed to Be University celebrated Santali Language Day with great enthusiasm and a deep sense of cultural pride. The period of observation is commemorated every year from 22 December to 7 January, making it a profoundly special, historic, and auspicious time for the Santali community.
The significance of this observance originates from a historic milestone: the inclusion of the Santali language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution on 22 December 2003, followed by the final Gazette notification bearing the signature of the Hon’ble President of India on 7 January 2004. Together, these two dates symbolize constitutional recognition, linguistic dignity, and cultural affirmation for Santali-speaking people across India. Consequently, the period from 22 December to 7 January is remembered as one of the most memorable and proud chapters in the history of the Santali language.
During this period, Santali people across the country experience a strong sense of collective joy, pride, and emotional connection to their language and identity. Each year, these days are celebrated not merely as ceremonial events but as a reaffirmation of the struggles, contributions, and aspirations of the Santali-speaking community.
This momentous occasion at KISS Deemed to Be University was graced by several esteemed guests and dignitaries, including Mr. Chaitanya Prasad Majhi, Convener of the Santali Advisory Board, New Delhi; Dr. Kadey Soren, Deputy Director (Academics); and Dr. Biswanath Soren (Commerce), Mr. Siba Marndi, President of ASECA, Keonjhar, along with his wife Mrs. Palo Marndi. The event was organized under the aegis of the School of Comparative Tribal Languages and Literatures.
The celebration was further enriched by the presence of distinguished faculty members, including Dr. Naran Tudu, Head of the Department of Santali; Dr. Sunaram Soren; Dr. Dhanu Murmu; and Dr. Gobind Soren from the Department of Sanskrit, along with scholars and students.
Such celebrations play a vital role in strengthening linguistic awareness, preserving cultural heritage, and inspiring younger generations to take pride in their mother tongue. The Santali Language Day celebration at KISS not only honored the past achievements of the language but also reaffirmed a collective commitment to its future growth in the fields of education, research, and literature.

During the Teacher's Day celebration, Dr. Sunaram Soren Sir sang a song that he himself had written. The song was dedicated to Guru Gomke, who always blesses us. We remember him and pray to him at all times.
Teachers are like guiding lights who show us the path to success and inspire us to become better human beings.

Yesterday, we celebrated Teachers' Day because teachers guide us in setting our goals, building a bright future, and becoming good human beings. They show us the path to success and help us face and overcome many challenges in life. In this sense, teachers can be considered our first parents, along with our society members and elders, who all play an important role in shaping us.
