Finally, on 11th August, The much awaited MedQuiz 2017 was held. With 180 Teams or over 350 participants turning up, this was the largest audience MedQuiz ever witnessed. It was a very fine evening filled with trivia covering everything interesting from all of medicine: anatomy to radiology! The quiz was conducted by new Quizmasters this time - Syed Murtuza Hashmi and Waheed Hussain. The Prelims had 30 questions which went smoothly and the top 8 teams made it to the finals. The teams which made it to the finals were: 1. What's in a name? : Saurav Biswas and Bhavesh Jain from Gandhi Medical College, Secunderabad. 2. X: Furqan Ahmed and Rajshekar Rao, Gandhi Medical College, Secunderabad 3. Myoclonic Jerks: Syeda Asna Hashmi and Apoorva Pandharpurkar, Gandhi Medical College, Secunderabad. 4. Double Bubble Trouble: Kaushik Chary and Mohammed Anas from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi and Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal 5. F= ma: Aishwarya Vedula and Manali Mundada, Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad 6. Fourth Place= Ifrah Fatima and Juveria Javid, Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad 7. Purse String Suture: Abdus Sattar and Mohammed Faisal Uddin, Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad 8. Medico Sapiens: Anuran Mukherjee and Kathirvel M, JIPMER, Pondicherry The team coming 9th had the team name 'The Last Team on Stage'. : Sameer Sekhar Patra and Adarsh Kumar Mohapatra from AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. They just missed out qualifying for the finals. The tenth team was "Straight outta G ": Mrudhula Rao and Shashi Keerthan from Gandhi Medical College, Secunderabad. A couple of questions into the finals, the team from JIPMER had to leave as they had a bus to catch. Because of this, the next team, from AIIMS Bhubaneswar, who already had booked a cab and were about to leave, got a chance to be in the finals. Fortunately, 'The Last Team On Stage' finally got on to the stage. At the start, ...while a few others opened their account, the team Purse String Suture gave some fantastic answers on the buzzer while other teams made a slow start with Team X getting a few negatives. This round set the rest of the quiz into motion! The written round on similar sounding medical terms, however, was done well by all the teams. The third round made a lot of changes to the scoreboard. The Last Team On Stage gave some wonderful answers which moved them to the top with Purse String Suture closely behind them. The next round was entirely on the buzzer and this round proved good for Myoclonic Jerks whose steady answers got them tied to the second place with Purse String Suture. This round also helped X to gain momentum and got them closer to the teams tied on the second place. The final buzzer round was a battle for the second and third positions. X buzzed to glory in this round. Before the last question, teams Purse String Sutures, Myoclonic Jerks and X were in competition for the second and third places. Meanwhile AIIMS Bhubaneswar with a wide margin played safe and took away the winners title. X buzzed on the last question to be Runners up and left the other two teams to battle out for the third place. After an electrifying tie breaker, Myoclonic Jerks secured the third place! The final standings were : Winners: "The Last Team on Stage": Sameer Sekhar Patra and Adarsh Kumar Mohapatra from AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. Adarsh is a first-year student! Runners up: "X": Furqan Ahmed and Rajshekar Rao from Gandhi Medical College, Secunderabad. Second Runners Up: "Myoclonic Jerks": Syeda Asna Hashmi and Apoorva Pandharpurkar from Gandhi Medical College, Secunderabad. The Champions of 2017 walked away richer by 10k, the Runners Up by 6k and Second Runners Up by 4k. The rest of the finalists got a cash prize of 1k as well! Overall, it was a fun filled evening with a lot of drama and full of adrenaline. Dr Aparna Veda Priya, HOD of Anatomy, Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad gave away the prizes to all the teams.
