Salient features of a “CUSTOMISED” foot inserts available in India.

1. They give emphasis on the term “CUSTOMISED”.

2. They advertise they have solution for every common foot related disorders.

3. They would say their secret technology is directly imported from some European country.

4. They would emphasis on everyone having either of the 3 type of foot structure: normal, flat foot (pronated foot) and high arch (supinated foot).

5. Often the place where these inserts are manufactured uses gadgets that looks futuristic (lights and sounds compliment each other).

6. The final product looks very attractive.

7. Now a days they even ask the patient to undergo a foot pressure scan so that they can justify their work.

8. They can be manufactured within a few minutes.

9. Their product gets a healthcare validity tag when often Physios and Orthotists starts manufacturing these in their facility.

10. Most importantly this is very easy to adapt since you don’t have to waste your time in learning the overall foot mechanics or manufacturing the insert and common man can easily get fooled.

FOOT ORTHOSIS VS FOOT INSERT:

A genuine foot orthosis is a prescription contraption that is custom-made from an individual's FOOT IMPRESSION or FOOT SCAN in a more scientific and precise method. Therefore, foot orthosis are considered an investment in your overall well-being providing the necessary structural support to your feet. A clinician involved in the prescription and designing of these orthosis have to invest their lifetime to understand the overall mechanics of human foot.

Whereas,

A foot insert is thought of as a short-term solution for acute foot problems. They are either manufactured within a few minutes and are available in attractive packaging & colours in local medical stores, malls and a few clinics. The person involved in these procedures can get trained with a few hours to manufacture inserts without even the need of basic knowledge in medical related field. Often their ads are misleading (as shown below).

It is for the public to decide for their best interest and don’t get trapped by the name of “CUSTOMISED” in their ad.

Another self acclaimed FOOT AND ANKLE CARE DOCTOR from Mumbai, selling an imported foot insert machine with her franchisee network. She is claiming to be a podiatrist with a basic physiotherapy qualification. Even she is conducting seminars and charging high fees from budding physiotherapists.

We condemns such fake professionals. Our advise to her, why dont you practise Physiotherapy and earn your living?

We are feeling proud to announce that Asrat Assefa working as an orthoprosthetist with the International Committee of Red Cross have recently completed his "two weeks international internship" on pedorthics from us at SUM & IMS Hospital, Bhubaneswar, India.
