Indian Education: From Nalanda to Nala

People reading my blogs about education must be feeling how antagonistic my posts are. Just sit back and relax. This will have more positives than the contrary. The graph is descending in the field of quality education because of the standards set by rich cultural heritage of India. The vibrant past has made us robust till this age with its eloquent learning system. Our earlier civilizations are known as the knowledge hubs of this world. We are the successors to the ace educators, why accept mediocrity?
Way back around 800BC Taxila was at the apex of education centers across the world. Quality of education was hailed above all. At a time when Monarchy was the medium of governance, it realized the power behind making people knowledgeable. Free education for the poor was of the same standard as the royal family members. Be it Medicine, Economics, politics or Language the inmates excelled in all domains. The benchmark set by them is still considered the world. Chanakya , Panini and Charaka are the finest of the scholars created by probably the first university ever existed. It was possible due to the recognition of knowledge as the integral part of a prosperous society.
In this era, the affluent only can afford going to best of the universities. The course fee demanded by universities, who are at the pinnacle, is a far away from the Indian middle class. Only dream can take them there. It’s the system responsible for the degradation of many educational institutions. Only making the exam tougher will not generate scholars. Taxila’s teaching method existed without exams as knowledge is considered as the prime motto behind it. Let’s visit another historical university located in Modern state of Bihar. The ruins are still found with gigantic structures destroyed by them, whose only meaning of life is War. It’s Nalanda the insignia of Eastern education across the globe. A University with strength as high as 10000 and instructors numbered somewhere around 2000. The significant part is students to Instructors ratio. Teaching process involved a bonding of teacher and students. Wisdom is what they were aspiring for. The lawmakers of that era have sponsored the university. All this happened 1000 years back.
We are marching ahead or backwards? Don’t you think our education system needs introspection? Neither it has excellence nor personal care. Our law makers feel reservation should be given on the basis of cast rather than economic standard. Part of it is completely rotten. There are plenty of people who have a plan to revamp this but those cold blooded Government Babus sitting in state and center capitals are too stubborn to accept any change. Now it’s time to take our best foot forward. The condition and attendance in Government schools is not invisible to anyone. The only solution is to accept change and provide good education for our future generation.

LEARNING VS EARNING
Learning and Earning, are these two entities interdependent? The answer isn’t straight forward. But everyone should understand the significance of both. Being awakened about this would have changed your attitude towards education. Eventually this benefits in long run. Helps you to become the kind of person you imagined yourself to be.

In simple words Learning is a process to accumulate knowledge. Makes you amass facts about the surroundings. Helps your mind interpret the input from your eyes. The database of your mind should be updated with proper content otherwise you are no better than a mentally paralytic person. Learning is a system which persists for the whole journey called life. The more knowledge you gather the better of a person you become. This eventually leads you towards success.

Success is the most abstract and ambiguous term I ever came across. It differs for every living being. Success can be as simple as winning a competition and as complex as becoming something else. What you want to become in your life is something that defines success. Realizing your dream is. This is not relative so shouldn’t be compared with others. Practically no second person starts from the same place. Success is “How far you have traveled not where you reached”.

Everyone needs bread and butter to survive. These don’t come for free. So you must earn some fund to arrange the necessary resources to survive. This can be achieved through several means. Art, Craft and professional Jobs are simply few of multitude of routes available for livelihood. Skill combined with learning can do a legitimate valuation of your efforts. This is to be clarified that whatever is taught in our Alma mater shouldn’t be confined to earn bucks for life. That should define the kind of person we become.

Amalgamation of these two factors leads to the mediocrity of our education system. Vocational education should clearly satisfy its purpose so as primary education. There should be a team of ambidextrous persons to prepare the curriculum for our education system. No transformation can be done overnight, the refinement will take time to appear. But a new era can be founded the day everyone realize the meaning of true education.

Teenage: The age of transition…

One of the primary concerns among parents is how their future generation will make a formidable career. The most delicate part of it is after school education. In general school education is minutely monitored by the instructors and to some extent parents as well. But the first step towards the college hints a phase of transformation. This phase of transition is decisive in determining the career ahead.
“Prevention is better than cure”. Some metals are so delicate that they can only be mould by heating them to a certain temperature. Same is the situation with a teenager. They should be trained to handle the obstacles on the path towards the big league. Fountain pen is very precious but its ink gets dried up if left unused for long. How much talent a person may possess without proper utilization it becomes useless. Our study had discovered a few coveted points they need to be injected as a set of rules for the sure shot success mantra.
Discover your Interest early. The most important factor for success in anyone’s life is the love for his work. Have you ever imagined about doing the best job in this world. Best job is a myth. Best job is no different than what you have dreamt of doing in your life. Amalgamation of your passion and job will create wonderful results. This makes you prosper and keeps you ahead of your competitors. It is the responsibility of the parents to see the interest of their kid and let him do what he is dreaming about rather pushing him to fulfill their wish. Negotiate if you want to convey them a message.
Understand your society. Knowledge of surroundings has a hefty share in shaping the future of the kids. This is no different than the society you live in. Half knowledge is more dangerous than being ignorant. The average knowledgeable persons will always talk what they listen in general. They are shortsighted and lag the imagination to see the distant. Don’t go by what every other guy is doing in the society and earning the essentials. You are special and different from others. It’s time to realize the potential in you and make a difference.
Take the exercises. This really is meant for the students. The moment we pass out from high school a kind of freedom rules our mind. This doesn’t allow us to settle with the text books for long. Drop of a needle moves us to know the matter. But this really is not what we are supposed to do. Only one huddle is crossed and the destination is still far. Get back to the basics, in order to realize your dream you have to stay ahead of others physically, mentally and spiritually. Take up the exercises in text book, physical one’s and last but not the least from spiritual angle as well.
Handle your curiosity effectively. I can sense, the feeling that you are experiencing after reading all this. Advice is what makes you most irritated at this age. Everyone thinks I am grownup now and can handle the issues myself. The same happened with me when I was of your age. But, trust me you have seen only a small part of this world. It’s really big and amazing. All, who are not letting you live (this currently is in your mind) are your near and dear ones. They, who really care for you, wanna help you, guide you and make you smile. Use your determination to control the accelerator of your life.
