What is the difference between Ability and Capacity? :

Ability :

( A ) Power to do something mental or physical

Mohini has the ability to do the work.

( B ) Cleverness or intelligence

He is a man of great ability.

( C ) Talent

He has the great musical ability.

Capacity :

( A ) Ability to hold or contain something

This hall has the seating capacity of 5000.

The cinema is filled to capacity.

( B ) Power to produce something

Our factory is working at full capacity.

( C ) Ability to produce or experience or understand or learn something

I have an enormous capacity for hard work.

This book is within the capacity of younger readers. (This book can be understood by younger readers.)

Confused and Misused Words

What is the difference between Abate and Abet? :

Abate :

( A ) Become less

I left home when the storm had abated.

( B ) Make less

People are campaigning to abate the noise in the cities.

Abet :

( A ) Help or encourage somebody to commit an offence or do something wrong

He was abetted in these illegal activities by his wife.

( B ) Encourage a crime

You are abetting theft.

Quick to learn, but quick to forget
- to him the gift is cancelled by the failing.

Slow to learn, but slow to forget
- in him the failing is cancelled by the gift.
