Going Global Club Activity

11/06/2021

‘Booktopia’ is a virtual global reading fest that intends to encourage the essence of reading. This event held in commemoration of the National Reading Day aims at inspiring the young generation to read books and share their ideas and experiences with others. Participants will get an opportunity to listen to the insights of prominent keynote speakers, get involved in interactive sessions and meet avid readers from around the world.

If you’re like most people, your smartphone is the first thing you check in the morning and the last thing you check before you sleep. In India the screen time has shot up by 100% since the first lockdown. Screen time usage of over 4 hours a day doubled in the US from 32 % to 62 % with teens aged 14 - 17. Too much screen time can impair brain structure and function; it can cause insomnia, mood swings, and even problems at school. Teens who spend more than two hours a day on screen-time activities scored lower on language and thinking tests, and some with more than seven hours a day of screen time experienced thinning of the brain’s cortex, the area of the brain related to critical thinking and reasoning. This excess screen time can be even more damaging. Teens who used screens more than one hour a day had poorer emerging literacy skills, less ability to use expressive language, and tested lower on the ability to rapidly name objects. In contrast, children who frequently read books scored higher on cognitive tests. In summary, PUT DOWN YOUR ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND PICK UP A BOOK….READING MAKES YOU SMARTER.

During this online session participants will be split into 'Barazas' which are breakout sessions unique to Round Square inspired events where the entire group is split up into smaller groups (mixing up all the participants from all over the world) and allowing them to have more intimate conversations and activities around the theme. We have student team leaders that run these sessions and have divided the Baraza under different Book Genres and into age appropriate groups. There are ten Baraza with book genre themes including mystery, fantasy, comic, classic and sci-fi.

He is a governing body member of the NTA appointed by the Government of India. He was overwhelmed with joy to see students from across the globe attending the seminar he said, " Students from different countries under one platform is the finest ' peace gene ' for promoting harmony across the globe. Dialogue on ' mental health ', helps instill resilience and self -awareness early in life. With such programs SAI International is helping build ' empathy ' across the universe".
While in the closing session Dr. Sriya Bhattacharyya, Psychologist, Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Health Equity at Harvard Medical School and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, USA. Dr Bijaya Kumar Sahoo, Founder and Mentor SAI International School, thanked the guest speakers for their valuable talks. Dr Sahoo also delivered a talk on "Happiness at Home", followed by an interactive session with the students. He said a positive and a happy mindset can do wonders, if practiced fully. He was happy to host the 11 countries at SAI International IYD 2020 celebrations with a cause much needed for the millennial.

Besides the Opening and Closing Sessions students were divided into 12 groups called Barazzas and each barazza had a theme to discuss.
