Renowned Sambalpuri folk singer, Padma Shri Jitendra Haripal, has been badly affected due to the recent rains and floods. Despite the mass popularity of the evergreen original Rangabati song; Padma Shri Haripal has always lived in rather challenging financial conditions like many other artists in the area. This recent crisis threatens the availability of even a safe house to shelter in, for his entire family.

As you all know we have started screening films every Friday at 6:00 pm. Today we are screening the film "Bhuvan Shome" under the Cinema Classics module. Bhuvan Shome is a 1969 Indian Hindi-language drama film directed by Mrinal Sen, based on a Bengali story by Balai Chand Mukhopadhyay. The plot is of a bureaucrat undergoing a transformation in the lap of nature. is a landmark film and is said to have pioneered the Indian New Wave. Join us today at 6 pm to enjoy this classic!! There he rides a bullock cart, encounters a buffalo, and finally a village belle. Off to duck shooting amidst the sand dunes, suddenly everything lights up. Prof. Anjali Gera Roy, from the Humanities department of IIT Kharagpur, will be us to share her thoughts on the film.
