ICAR-Directorate of Foot and Mouth Disease, Bhubaneswar

ICAR-Directorate of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is a premier institute for FMD research in India, established in 1968 as an AICRP for FMD Virus typing. The institute is also a member of the FAO/OIE Network of FMD Reference Laboratories and GFRA (Global FMD Research Alliance). The state-of-the-art FMD research centre (ICFMD) with high containment laboratory facility (BSL-3Ag) established by ICAR at Bhubaneswar meets the requirement of FMDCP as stipulated by OIE/FAO, and will cater to the need of researchers and scientists of India and abroad for safe handling of FMD virus as per international norms. ICAR-DFMD is a technology leader in developing various diagnostics kits, improved vaccine and epidemiological tools to cater the needs of India’s official FMD Control programme. The institute work collaboratively with Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying in its flagship programme, Livestock Health and Disease Control programme (LHDCP) by providing technical support. The institute also provide technical support to commercial and public sector livestock farms for FMD diagnosis, Post Vaccination Seromonitoring, and serosurveillance, and provide technical consultancy services to various state laboratories and industry partners.
