The inaugural session, convened by Dr. Bhawna Gupta, commenced with the lighting of the lamp, followed by the welcoming of distinguished guests to the dias. Addresses were delivered by Prof. Srinivas Patnaik, Director, School of Biotechnology; Prof. Mrutyunjay Suar, CEO KIIT TBI, BCKIC, Director General, I Four, KIIT Deemed to be University, Chairman, BCKIC and CEO, KIIT-TBI; Prof. (Dr.) Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, KIIT Deemed to be University. The speakers emphasized the importance of the biotechnology industry as a growing sector crucial for the country’s development.

The inaugural address was delivered by Mr. Praveen K. Gupta, Managing Director, Premas Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd., setting the context for the conference and highlighting emerging opportunities in biotechnology. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Rahul Modak, Associate Dean, School of Biotechnology.

We want to convey our best wishes to our talented team of students, comprising Swati Samikshya Mohanty, Kananika Moharana, Surabhi Sahoo, and Sruti Lagna Dash from KIIT School of Biotechnology - KSBT, who proved their competence at the national level and bagged the 2nd position for developing their ingenious project, an Advanced Snake Venom Detection System which impressed the jury members of National Hackathon on Human-Wildlife Coexistence, organized by the Wildlife Institute of India(wii_india), held in Dehradun on October 5-6, 2025. The team was awarded a cash prize of ₹60,000, and KIIT University received ₹3 lakh to further brainstorm and implement this innovative idea. This accomplishment showcases our research standards and our diligence.

KIIT School of Biotechnology - KSBT, recognized as a Centre of Excellence by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, jointly organized a one-day Biotechnology Boot Camp in collaboration with the Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS), Bhubaneswar Chapter, and the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) under the theme “Unravelling the World of Biotechnology.”

The initiative aimed to enhance awareness of emerging biotechnological concepts among high school biology and chemistry teachers. Thirty-two teachers from reputed schools participated in the programme. The boot camp featured hands-on molecular biology experiments, demonstrations of high-end electron microscopy techniques, interactive sessions with experts, and discussions on integrating modern biotechnological advancements into school curricula.
