National Flag of India: All You Need To Know
National Flag of India: The Indian flag is the pride of every Indian. It’s not just a mere simple piece of cloth that we salute on every occasion of National interest like Republic Day or Independence Day. The national flag of India is designed under strict guidelines that have been set exclusively. The national flag of India was designed by Pingali Venkayya. He was an agriculturist and Indian freedom fighter. The National Flag of India was adopted during the meeting of the Constituent Assembly that was held on 22nd July 1947, a few days before India's independence from the British. The flag served as the national flag of the Dominion of India between 15 August 1947 and 26 January 1950 and that of the Republic of India thereafter. The term "tricolour" exclusively refers to the Indian national flag.
National Flag of India: Design
The National flag of India is a horizontal tricolor flag with saffron (Kesari) color at the top, white in the middle and dark green at the bottom in equal proportion. The ratio of the width of the flag to the length of the flag is 2:3. In the center of the white band is a navy-blue wheel that represents the chakra. Its design resembles that of the wheel on the abacus of the Sarnath Lion Capital of Ashoka. The diameter of the Ashoka Chakra diameter approximates to the width of the white band and it has 24 spokes.
National Flag of India: Symbolism
The colors and symbols of the Indian National flag hold deep philosophical meaning. Every color represents a specific aspect of Indian culture that resonates deeply within the hearts of the citizens. Saffron color stands for sacrifice and renunciation, white color stands for peace and green color stands for courage and immortality. The Ashok Chakra is a depiction of Dharma Chakra. Ashok chakra has 24 spokes that radiate from the center. It represents righteousness, justice and forwardness. The wheel stands for a constant movement that heralds progress and repels stagnation.
The underlying symbolism of the three colors is based on the secular principles of India. Saffron color represents Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, the white color is for Christianity and green color stands for Islam. The national flag as a whole represents a confluence of all religious principles.
National Flag of India: The Do's
A member of the public, a private organization or an educational institution may hoist/display the National Flag on all days and occasions, ceremonial or otherwise consistent with the dignity and honour of the National Flag.
Section 2 of the new code accepts the right of all private citizens to fly the flag on their premises.

Independence Day is celebrated annually on 15 August as a national holiday in India commemorating the nation's independence from the United Kingdom on 15 August 1947, the day when the provisions of the Indian Independence Act 1947, which transferred legislative sovereignty to the Indian Constituent Assembly, came into effect. India retained King George VI as head of state until its transition to a full republic, and the Constitution of India 1950 replaced the dominion prefix, Dominion of India, with the enactment of the sovereign law Constitution of India. India attained independence following the Independence Movement noted for largely non-violent resistance and civil disobedience
