Institute of Open & Distance Education (IODE) is an University Teaching Department of Barkatullah University established in 1977. IODE conducts range of Degree / Diploma Courses at the undergraduate, & Post Graduate levels in Arts, Science, Commerce, Computers, Management, Journalism, Library Science & so on. IODE headed by Director , Having 14 Faculty members & 5 office Staff. Student above 10 +2 level from any part and of any age can take admission to IODE.

The Institute of Open & Distance Education was running well. Unfortunatly due to introduction of new rule by Government of India that universities/Institute having NAAC score 3.26/4 can only run Distance Eucation programms we are now not able to continue Distance Education Programs in the University.
On 30th September 2023, I Sanjay Gulati, Director Institute of Open & Distance Education also retired from Barkatullah University, Bhopal. It was a nice journey for me from Jan 2000, where I tried to provide educaion in distance mode in many fields viz. Journalism, Library Science, Psychological Counselling, Management, Computers, Arts, Commerce, Social Science etc.
