Unlike conventional shells, this innovation integrates a ramjet propulsion system that compresses incoming air, mixes it with fuel, and generates sustained thrust mid-flight—without moving parts. The result? A dramatic boost in range and battlefield capability. While standard shells cover around 40 km, and advanced systems extend up to 72 km, researchers indicate this ramjet-assisted shell could push distances beyond 100 km, depending on the gun platform.

Designed to retain lethality while enhancing strike range by up to 50% or more, the system offers greater tactical flexibility and deeper engagement options—without the need for new missile platforms. Importantly, it preserves the core advantages of artillery: simplicity, survivability, and cost-effectiveness.

Though further testing is underway before mass production, this breakthrough signals India’s growing strength in high-end, homegrown defence innovation—combining engineering precision with strategic impact.
