A teacher, mentor and guide for every student who approaches him for help, Mr. Deepu Krishna has always been popular amongst the NLIU fraternity and beyond. He was the second president of our Alumni Association and has served under both academic and administrative capacities at multiple universities. Right after graduating from NLIU, he did an MBA in Corporate Law from National Institute of Management. He did his LLM from Jagaran Lakecity University and was a gold medalist. He was associated with the Career Launcher for a number of years where he mentored hundreds of budding law students. He is currently serving as the Deputy Director Outreach and Admissions at O.P. Jindal Global University, and we are grateful that he took time out of his schedule to answer our questions!
On being asked about the guiding force behind his decision to do his Masters in Business Administration, he says: “It was a conscious decision which had two reasons. Reason number one, while I started my own venture I started flirting with the nuances of management. The toughest facet of management I encountered was man management and financial dexterity. By that time I had confessed to myself that I am academically oriented so the best way to get a hang of these was to update myself academically. Reason number two - I had a strong knack in marketing and advertising. With my previous organization most of the ideations by me had become national rage and what we today call as "viral". I had a deep interest in what today people call as internet marketing which back in 2006, over Orkut, I used to generate student interest in law as a career option. But in principle there were areas I wanted myself to be proficient and so an MBA.”
On being asked about his journey after law school, he said “I think I was the right man at the right time. I started law entrance coaching when people were not even thinking about the same. At a young age I was chairing pan India the most famous product of the industry which gave me a lot of scope to understand administrative functions. I have travelled the length and breadth of the country spreading the message of law as a career and hence became a prominent face. The experience had been both high and low and at times life threatening. Fame had its side effects and I was too young to handle it. But with age I learnt lessons and that helped me to manage by predicting market trends with great accuracy, which is the reason why I was able to juggle between academic and administrative roles in life with ease. I advise a lot of Vice Chancellors from various universities to head of many edu enterprises and this is possible only because during law school I learnt one thing importantly...to stay in touch with trends and recent researches and also be a part of these.”
